I'm a little late on watching this, but finally got around to catching this over the weekend.

I'm gonna have to give this movie a big thumbs down. This is like Braveheart...with the same amount of fighting and EVEN MORE cheese. The dialogue is so cheesy that it was almost embarassing to watch. I had to start laughing at about the 15th time of hearing something along the lines of:

"IT IS SPARTAN LAW!"

"NO MERCY, NO RETREAT...FOR A SPARTAN WARRIOR!!"

Of course, if it were a little more entertaining and a lot less cheesy I could have put up with (read: ignored) the latent homosexuality of the movie.

Question: how is it NOT gay to have leather underoos and boots, and a cape as your soldier uniform?

And if you don't think that Xerxes looked like a tranny and anything other than tuff, then your opinion is appreciated, but not valid.

Now, I did bother to stop and consider that this movie is an adaptation of a graphic novel, and that the dialogue may have been keeping in line with the original work. OK, fine...however, that still may not make a very good movie.

The one thing I did like. The way the movie looked itself. The colors, the grain. This movie looked great. It just wasn't a great movie.

And, I don't think that Leonidas threw off just to cut him and make him look mortal. What would "look" more mortal, being cut or being killed?
thats what i wanted to hear. good shit for saving me a AMC ticket.

i do agree though there was a lil homoerotic tendancies in the scene wit Xerxes and leonidas.....you see how Xerxes looks at that nigga then leonidas turns around and Xerxes comes up behind him and puts his hands on his shoulders.....id a turned around and stabbed the pierced wierdo.....

which brings up a good point:

why didnt leonidas jus kill that foo right then.....he most likely would of been assassinated but even he said to his troops to hope that they kill him cuz then all of sparta would have to join the war and wouldnt be much of a war anyway if Xerxes was dead and wasnt around to command his slave army.....and in the end leonidas ends up dead anyways so he should of jus took out Xerxes when he had the chance....but hey i aint sayin how the movie should have been im sayin how leonidas should of been in real life bacc then.....

If someone who calls themselves D-Locc is going to say I have a lack of intelligence because of a movie review, then you're gonna gimme some kind of half-witted attempt to prove it.

Again, if anything I said shows a lack of historical knowledge, then please quote it and criticize it. Otherwise, just admit you were trying to be funny and failed miserably.

Then you can also admit that you think this is the best movie ever and I hurt your feelings.

Clam down, homegirl and try to make some sense outta that shit you just said.

You just said that if I had prior knowledge of what the movie was about, then I would have enjoyed it.

IS THAT RIGHT? IS THAT ALWAYS TRUE? IS THAT LIKE "COCKSMOKES THEORY OF GREAT MOVIES"?

So again, as long as I know what a movie is about, then I will enjoy it?

Seriously people, everyone is allowed to have an opinion contrary to mine. Yet, please try to make some sense. Just stop for a second and read your post before you hit the reply button.

well, while many points on here concerning whether or not Leonidas was trying to kill or simply wound are valid, the book does shed some insight into Leondas' motive. In the book, when he chuks the spear, he screams in big, red, bloody letters "DIE"

HE prob did not do it because of the respect alot of warriors in the old days had for battles an wars.
Just like in the same part when he said he was gonna go meet him alone an the others asked him if he thought that was really safe an he said he hoped they do kill him to give sparta even more reason to bring their whole army right away.
In all of history even between enemies you can see some sort of respect, like in some wars when the battle was so bad the other side would allow the defeated party 2 gather their dead.

Xerxes waited four days for the Greek force to disperse. On the fifth day he sent Medes and Cissians, along with relatives of those who had died 10 years earlier in the battle of Marathon to take the Greeks prisoner and bring them before him.[21] According to Ctesias, the first wave numbered 10,000 soldiers and were commanded by Artapanus. They were "cut to pieces" with only 2 or 3 Spartans dead. [22]

CRAZY SHIT

Good movie. A few complaints, I wanted to see the hunchback dude fight, all that talk and they show nothing. And who was the big black persian when Leonidas left the counsel in the mountains? I didn't see him at all after that. And the fighting choreography was sick as fuck with those 2 young dudes having each other's back but get's his head cut off, that was unexpected and crazy. Good movie though.
