I'm a little late on watching this, but finally got around to catching this over the weekend.
I'm gonna have to give this movie a big thumbs down. This is like Braveheart...with the same amount of fighting and EVEN MORE cheese. The dialogue is so cheesy that it was almost embarassing to watch. I had to start laughing at about the 15th time of hearing something along the lines of:
"IT IS SPARTAN LAW!"
"NO MERCY, NO RETREAT...FOR A SPARTAN WARRIOR!!"
Of course, if it were a little more entertaining and a lot less cheesy I could have put up with (read: ignored) the latent homosexuality of the movie.
Question: how is it NOT gay to have leather underoos and boots, and a cape as your soldier uniform?
And if you don't think that Xerxes looked like a tranny and anything other than tuff, then your opinion is appreciated, but not valid.
Now, I did bother to stop and consider that this movie is an adaptation of a graphic novel, and that the dialogue may have been keeping in line with the original work. OK, fine...however, that still may not make a very good movie.
The one thing I did like. The way the movie looked itself. The colors, the grain. This movie looked great. It just wasn't a great movie.
And, I don't think that Leonidas threw off just to cut him and make him look mortal. What would "look" more mortal, being cut or being killed?
