okay. This really pisses me off. trading the whole bullpen away. Im already crying over this season. I guess it will be "fun" to watch a bunch of kids play with men.

whys that? we have officially traded our most talented pitchers for kids. what am I missing?
You cant look at it like that though. You cant start rebuilding in 1 year with no money. Everything theyre doing now is plans for the future, and as much as I dont like it, are smart moves, IMO...The more I think about it the more I think the A's did the right thing honestly, the upside to Gio, and especially Cahill werent as high as they seemed...They traded for young talent and prospects that are going to take a couple seasons to shake out. Dont worry about attendance, especially for a team designed not to win in a stadium they essentially dont want you to go to anymore...And all that shit aside the A's NEVER sell out, there were games home games in 1990 they didnt sell 5000 tickets, there are stories about mid-season 1974, after winning 2 WS in a row that 500 people didnt show up...Look at it like this: Once the stadium is built, in either Oakland or SJ or wherever, they will have some of the top prospects with 3 seasons experience, Jemile Weeks with even more, their minor league prospects will be ready, and money coming in from said stadium. They stand the chance to be in a very good position once this is all figured out. Its just the waiting and bullshit in the meantime that sucks, lol.
They are going to suck this year, but they were going to suck this year anyway. This way they have a chance to be good in a couple years. Its not like theyre dismantling a championship team, theyre rebuilding something that is legitimately broken. Last season they werent 1-3 players away from a World Series, they were $100 million, a stadium, a farm system, 8 fielders, and 9 bats away...All that is being addressed. The Rangers and Angels are powerhouses now. Just like the Yankees and Red Sox were a few years ago, then you know who started winning games? The Rays. You rebuild young, make savy trades, and get the wind against your back and started winning some damn ball games. Dont look at everything so pessimistically.

so gio wasnt young?
Of course he's young. But in 3-5 years when these 20-21 year olds are nearing their prime, Gio will be over 30. And dont forget that he leads the league in walks, both years. They traded Gio while his stock was still high, and they got a significant haul for him. Look at it like either you keep him until he's a free agent in 2016, he pitches good for a losing team and leads the league in walks, then you lose him anyway. Or you trade him now and bring in 4 of the best prospects from the Nationals strong system, and like ive said 100 times, you have a capable team in place when the stadium is built.

Im not buying it, were a major league farm team. Those prospects will be brought up this year, and then traded the next, to do the same thing your saying. Then when we have a new stadium we will start the cycle over. So why not field a team with exciting players so you not only have a chance at reaching .500, but also have a team fans are still willing and wanting to pay to see. The more the a's win, the more im going to have a large desire to go to the game

The plan is for that to stop happening. With the revenue from the stadium theyll be able to resign free agents. Trading Gio for prospects, and trading players to avoid a contract are 2 completely different things. What the hell are you talking about 'field an exciting team people want to see'? Nobody came to see the a's last year, why would they come this year? They didnt finish .500 last year, why would they this year? If you dont like anything they do, any of the players, dont believe in them, and only want to support them win theyre winning, why even be a fuckin fan?

I went to over 30 games last year, and our team wasnt that bad. Young talent with gio, cahill, and weeks made the team exciting to watch.

your asking those questions to yourself right? didnt finish .500 last year, so shouldnt we fuckin try to this year? Im sorry I would like my team to win. Is it a crime that I dont like the decisions of letting everyone go and moving to a new stadium? Seems as if your trying to alienate me from being an a's fan just because their not doing what I want

You went. Nobody else did. Dead last in attendance, <1.5 million fans over 81 home games. 74-88 isnt that bad? Really? The goal isnt .500, its the world series. A team that finishes sub-500 4 of the 5 last years, in the worst stadium in baseball isnt a draw.

It doesnt matter how hard they try. They share a division with the Rangers that keep going to the WS, and the Angels that signed one of the best hitters in a decade ontop of everything else. Theyre making changes to adress all their problems, and you find fault with it. Whats your plan then? You dont want them to trade anyone, you dont want to move, you cant pay anyone to come and play, and you have no money to keep anyone...Tell me how the 74-88 2011 A's win more games, draw more fans, and compete in now one of the strongest divisions in 2012, all in the leagues worst stadium...

keep your bullpen, let the old geezers go, and sign what bats you can afford. play small ball to generate runs, and win games from the pitchers mound.

Teams set goals, and finishing .500 is a great goal to accomplish with a struggling team. Your talking as if this stadium is the reason why were losing, when weve won series there. Your also talking like the new stadium is the holy grail, and is going to make us rich and prosperous once we get in there. What the a's are doing now is putting up the frame of a decent size house, and then burning the blueprint, tearing down the frame, and starting over with the same blueprint, thinking that this new(but same) blueprint is going to get them a bigger better house that already has furniture, and beer stocked in the fridge 24/7

I don't understand what the A's are doing. Getting a new stadium doesn't guarantee anything. Look at the Padres. They have a new stadium and yet they can barely sell 50% of the seats. They can't keep any of their stars and their future is bleak.

^exactly what im talking about. A stadium isnt going to solve our playoff problems, and its definetly not gonna solve our money problems. Players, and pennants is whats gonna make the A's win. I would rather try and compete with the rebuilding weve been doing, then start from scratch again

What 'old geezers' are you getting rid of? What bats are you gonna sign? Where you getting the money for it? Your saying things that are good ideas but have no base in reality. A's couldnt generate runs, all they had was small ball. The pitching staff was one of the best in the league, and that didnt equal wins.

For all intents and purposes the new stadium IS the holy grail. Do you have any idea how much revenue a state of the art stadium in the bay can generate? The Giants do, they sell out damn near every game. Lew Wolff isnt going to comitt any money to a team that doesnt draw dick for attendance, when the A's are in the new stadium, drawing fans, making money, Wolff is going to (ideally) fork over more money, that means signing free agents, making good trades, and keeping good players. What theyre doing now is burning the old house down to the ground, pouring new foundation, and starting over.
