violence is the only thing humans understand, wether it's watching innocents being assaulted with mass violence (Vietnam, Civil Rights movement, 9/11, etc.) to usher them out of their complacency to do something, or if its the people who were fucked over reacting violently to usher people out of their complacency (read about Nat Turner and John Brown and how their uprisings changed the course of American slavery indefinitely). Saying that I don't think people should destroy fellow citizens shit, but I have no problem with a riot. Cuz the communities aren't really communities, they don't have social capital, civic programs, a proper law enforcement, businesses or other things you need to make a proper functioning community -they are ghettos that poor people have been systematically relegated to for decades -that they now feel okay with, hence the inward violence.

if your doin it you accept it as a fact of life, if your an innocent bystander/ working folk caught in the cross fire it shouldnt be accepted as a fact of life......
that is in a perfect world, in this one what can a innocent bystander do? if you made a thread about somebody sick of the nonsense and they called the law you would have a hundred posts talking about snitches get stitches and all those slogans. one day there will be a solution but right now that is what it is
thats a really good point. People yelling to stop with this or stop with that.. but if someone hits up the police they a snitch. its a lose/lose so people just deal with the shit i guess. fucked situation

That's a obvious observation and you are correct but your opinion is sort of like a river that leads to an ocean. It's a lot more deeper then that.
I'm glad that you brought that up because its hard to discuss this topic with out addressing other issues. I see a lot of people (not really in this thread) just say fuck the police and and hold them accountable for injustice across the nation. The police are going to fuck up regardless simply because the task force is made up of people. People are flawed. People shoot people. Dick Cheney shot his friend in the face with a shotgun, Plexico Burris shot himself in the leg and niggas in general just tend to shoot. So my question is when do you stop viewing the shooter as a cop and start judging him as a man?

its mandatory..riots.. pressure needs to be applied sometimes..
We're only as good as our options. If this is the only option were giving ourselves then we've succumbed to their stereotypes of us.

Another point is that they expected us to act this way and we proved them right. They're going to say force is needed to control this community or a riot will occur. The police base their actions in the community on previous encounters in that neighborhood. So the fact that the cop had his gun out to "subdue" Mr. Grant is in direct relationship with the history of violence the is expected from us. But I digress...

I have disagree with you man, many low income communities do have people that speak for them, programs that tried to help out those in trouble to overcome their problems withing their own community. And those ghetto's you speak of being okay with violence have been trying to stop the violence for many decades as well, not everyone in the ghetto is violent....

But we do not have the leaders we use to, downtown oakland has looked depleted for years because many dont want to move in or their businesses in , companies are moving out of oakland everyday, and the programs we do have are understaffed and under funded. The cops treat the youth like shit and our schools have so many youth undereducated that now schools are having a tough time with graduation rates. its not that these areas are for violence but they do not have the resources to fight them and other ill effects of the ghetto.

If Oakland is ever going to change, we (citizens of Oakland) need to change the way we think. We cannot continue with business as usual. When somebody gets murdered in Oakland, you hear about, see the flowers, see the funeral, then it's over. Over and over again, over 120 times it's the same thing. Why not "protest" and "riot" over 130 murders a year? Why not show the same fire and heart that we showed with Oscar Grant's murder. I know the circumstances are different, but still, we have to change the way we do things if we want a change.

Also we need to give thsee kids something to do, and keep them away from all these dumbass clicks and gangs. 15 year old kids repping Burnout, 13 year old kids repping SYG, enough is enough. Put a trumpet in their hands, maybe they will put the gun down. Places like EOYDC are trying but it just ain't enough. We just gotta change....I really don't know what else to say.
