For neither of those reasons but I don't really have enough interest in this to explain it out either so feel free to interpret it however you like. Isn't that what people do anyways?
That's my point. You say there is something stupid about the opinions you have heard, but I want to know WHAT makes them stupid opinions?
I am not interested in interpreting it for myself. *You* made the statement, and instead of interpreting it incorrectly, I am asking *you* to explain it.
Actually it isn't. Gravity, laws of physics, mathematics, the sun, etc., are examples of things which are objective.
So you consider most music consumers to be fickle, impressionable and trend-following lemmings. I don't think in this day & age people are half as brainless & ignorant as you might think. I don't think most people are geniuses either but I think people can generally tell the difference between decent (or better) work from total crap.
Yes, I think the average consumer of what would be considered "urban" music, is basically 3 I.Q. points away from being a styrofoam peanut. Whoever at any given moment is able to pump out the most basic, simplistic and superficial ear fluff and have it mass marketed on radio and mtv, is more likely to do big numbers than someone with actual talent. Is this
always the case? No.
But I do agree with you. There is a reason why Ja Rule (less crap) is gettin major spins 24/7, and the dude rappin bout "White Girls" (total crap) is only seen on BET Uncut at 3 a.m.
How many people do you think actually sit down and analyze the work on an N'Sync album as opposed to people who just bash their stuff simply because it's N'Sync and in their mind it's "not cool" in the eyes of their peers to compliment anything that falls into the 'popular' category.
I understand that, and I agree. But a person who DOES sit down and analyze it and who comes to the conclusion that the music on it is JUST NOT QUALITY, their opinion that it sucks is just as valid as the 13 yr. old Becky who listens to it religiously and thinks it is the best music ever recorded.
By the way, you heard Justin Timberlake's album? If so, what do you think about the work on it? In your opinion, is it quality work or something (crap) thrown together just to put his name on and sell to all the fickle, impressionable, trend-following fans?
No, I haven't heard his album. I heard the singles and it is not my type of shit. I don't like the beats and his voice and content is just not something I would voluntarily listen to. I'm not saying his shit is not quality, just that I personally don't dig it.
But if you told me that his album was tight, and later I said that "I hear stupid shit all the time like 'Justin Timberlake's album is tight'", doesn't it sound like I'm shitting on your opinion just because I disagree with it? That's why I wanted to know WHAT makes the opinions you gave about Nicky and Woodie "stupid".
