I had some homies who put a CD in Underdog on consignment... He told em, "You gotta do a commercial on Music Network to promote this or else people won't come in to buy it, it only costs this much, blah blah..." But they didn't do a commercial. Like 10 people told em they went into Underdog to get it, but dude said they didn't have it. He never even put it out on the shelves. The one who dropped the CD's off went back and he said "We didn't sell any, you need to do this commercial..."

I don't even take my shit into Underdog... I'll stick with Rock Bottom.

I must say a few things.

First of all, I respect A-Wax's opinion, I love his music, I believe with the right moves, he could be one of the leaders of this new era. Mike, it's all love as well. Now I read this, get phone calls over it, c'mon. For anyone who doesn't know Ron (Underdog Records/XPLOSIVE Magazine). He is a very busy person. Most of the time he's stressin on some other shit so when you come in his store and want to put shit on consignment, he don't want to hear it unless people ask for it in his store. If you have any interest in doing that, create the buzz your supossed to or have 5 homies go in ask for it. Wax- I don't believe Ron would ever call Gabe and request an interview for retaliation, I know for a fact Ron has been trying to keep alot of this beef shit out. But you are the artist, and they put what you said in the article. I personally wanted to do your interview, since the first time. Besides who wants to hear what Gabe has to say anyway. Underdog/Xplosive has been supporting you as a recording artist ever since your first album. As a matter of fact you have been in probably 5 out of 9 issues via an album review/story and or ad. You put your music in Underdog, and Ron takes it because it sells. As far as what I'm trying to do for XPLOSIVE- to keep Pittsburg, East Bay, Bay Area, Sacramento, Northern Cali, West Coast on as many pages in each mag as possible. If Showcase and Murderdog have been supporting you, I have'nt seen it. yeah they reviewed your shit, but where are the interviews. We have reviewed every one of your releases. You do deserve all the press you get, shit we're doing it right now. Those 2 mags don't support the Bay- Showcase has been taking Bay ads for years but only manages to put 2, maybe 3 interviews from the Bay in an issue. Murderdog is from Vallejo, I haven't seen them break in a new Bay artist in some time. You ask me their mag always has the same names on the front. Plus they have been slipping on the Bay as well- putting only a few Bay cats in with 70-85 % of the content coming from the Mid West and Down South. I love Murderdog, I grew up on it, but when I called them 3 years ago and said they need to put more Bay shit in there, the lady said "you should start your own magazine then".

Jester-the game has always been about the all mighty dollar. The Bay has hundreds of established artists with new ones popping up by the dozens. So if there isn't any hype behind your product, keep trying. XPLOSIVE takes care of the paying customer first. Then with what we have left, Ron decides on. No one can say shit about that. We are in the building stage, when an artist reaches the E-40, Lynch, C-Bo, status, then expect love automatic, but while everyone is on the same level, then we have to go with the one's who pay first. And if someone has created a buzz where the Bay is all over it, then I will make sure we hit em up.

G-Dubb-How well did your CD sell???

Kontac-did Showcase do an interview with you because your film was tight??

I mean no dis respect in any way towards any of you, but if you can talk, so can I. Take everything I said as the truth. If you want any privately owned (soundscan reporter) store to carry your product, give them a reason why, just because your from the soil, doen't mean your shit is gonna sell. I want us all to succeed. If anyone still has interest in XPLOSIVE magazine, just get a hold of me. I don't even like talking to Ron sometimes, but I know him personally, which none of you don't.

Killa Valley respects Xplosive, sum times Ron comes off side ways but its all good i do to sum times, i aint tripping....everyone gota get they money, including the magazines, and the ppl that press the magazine....aint no thang.....i think the last xplosive issue is one of the best not cuz we gota a interview in but it has so much info to read and shit from cali like mad style.....i seen sum of they others ones was shitty but this one is on sum other shit impressive this time around keep it the same........murder dog is coo but that new issue we just got with at the store sukcz balls, all jamiaca shit and bull hsit, just not my type i guess, lynch and tech was coo in there but thats it....reviews was kinda wack too but they still coo and doing they thang........showcase is coo too frank is coo ppl, he gota get paid cant hate on that.......as a lable and now a store Kartel Muzik i see the problems with comsingment, so we will not buy anything unless u gopt ppl asking for it, we will do sum consigments but after 30 days no sale then returned at ur expense or another 30 days its store property, and we have the right to give a away....it becomes 50 hours a month of work sum times for $200.00 so u getting $4 a hour fuck all that......ya know......but we will try the best we can, but sum times ya gota know the store side.....thats y we alway stress we need promo fpr the album we will gert it out of the store just send promo so we can help it sell then we both can get paid....ya heard!

I was in Undadogg Record store yesterday. Talked with Ron, put our album inhis store and cut.
Yes, he did try to hip us to his magazine and encouraged us to take out an ad. But that's probably what they SHOULD be doing.

I see he has mouthpiece. But then again, he's in sales. Anybody in sales is gonna have more mouthpiece than you want to deal with.

Its not the first time I've spoken with him. But I can say that he will talk industry with you if you show the inclination and knowledge. But he is about business. He will tell you straight up what his concerns are about putting new groups/artists in the store. My thing is that you always provide solutions for the retailer. If they are worried about space, offer them a counter top display. If they are worried about promotion, promise them to have an artist infront of their store passing out flyers as people they come in. If they worry about in store promo: get in their listening station and/or provide them with flyers and posters. ANd then deliver onyour promises.

I'm finding that the stores deal all together differently with you depending on your A: status B:business saavy C: efficiency and respect for their time.

All of that being said, there are some people who are ass-holes out there. But for the most part, everybody wants to make money. THey will put it intheir store if they think it will sell. It is the label/artists/distributors job to convince them that it will sell. But it is the label/artists job SOLELY to make that thang sell.

In short, I am not sure its good business to cut off a store just becuase of personal differences withthe owner. Especially when its your only rap store in your home city. The only way I see doing that is if they don't pay for for what they've sold. That is cause for leavin the store.....

that's why labels have managers so thatthe artists dont have to gert personally involved in that bullshit.
