My gfs Xbox is hella old, past warranty, and just got the three rings "general hardware failure" of death. I read online about a trick where you wrap your Xbox in a towel and leave it on for 20 min and let it overheat, turn it off, then turn it back on and it's supposed to work again, at least for a while. Has anyone tried this and does it work? Im prolly gonna try it and if it don't work just throw this shit away.

I have it too now error -74.
I'm not messing about with towels though. Just put it on one of my friends insurance. Tell them he broke it.
Since its a year since the warranty passed.

Good luck with the towels though, lol.

any time i ever got red rings on my xbox i just unplugged and repluggged the AC adapter and it worked again

a few times i had to take it to a different power source in the house that wasnt overloaded, green it on there, then take it back to the same spot

i would get scared, maybe the first 10 times, now im just like whatever and unplug the shit and start again..it happens maybe once every 3 months but ive had my xbox for 3 years

Back when this was more of a problem, I would look forward to getting red rings, as I was smart enough to get a warranty with my 360. It happened maybe once a year, and usually the price of the system would have dropped by then, so I would take the 360 to Best Buy, get a brand new 360, and the difference in price in a gift card. So I'd usually walk out with a new game also. Win win.

My current 360 is from 2007, and works like a champ. I went through 4 or so altogether between myself and my girl.
