come on there styles maybe similar but one can dribble tremendously and cant really be guarded while the other has to rely on his speed to get passed the defender (Monta). I brought it up in the another thread but if Iverson still had his crossover hed be the best player in the league but obviously the league didnt like how he broke everyones ankles. I remember his rookie year im pretty sure it was him shaking the hell outta Jordan with the crossover and then hitting the jumper shit was dope.

Wow some of yall are killin me!! I do understand what peete is askin and to answer his question I say no their styles arent similar! Yes they are both quick but remember A.I. is in his like 12 year and even though he seems to not have lost a step he has been the fastest guy in the NBA for a longtime if he aint now! They handle the ball differently to. Besides quickness and goin to the rim which is in general to me, I dont think they are similar! Now to the funny shit that folks are sayin Monta is better or will be better, man thats a bold statement. I am willing to put money that Monta will never be as good as A.I.!! Its not even close now and I dont see it but thats just me. I do think Monta is good and will get better, but we are talkin about A.I. here!!! Got Em!!

Jesus, if Monta had AI's handles, he'd be unstoppable.

And if AI still had an above the rim game like in his younger days before his 63129 injuries, and had his current bball IQ, he'd be unstoppable.

If 'if' was a 5th ...

They both have the will to and can finish after taking contact ... Other than that, I personally don't see similarities. Speed/Quickness is a trait shared by a lot of players in the NBA.

AI controls the ball waaaaaaaaaay better than Monta but Monta appears to have a certain control over his hops that not too many players have. AI is a volume shooter/scorer (always has been), Monta (this year anyway) is efficient in his scoring even when you look at how he scores in the half court. Say what you want about the "system" he plays in being perfect for him and all, but shit, you still have to get buckets at the end of the day.

It's weird when you see hear about these basketball "experts" in the media compare him to Allen Iverson. Makes you wonder what the hell they're lookin at, lol

Nah, the league didn't like how cradling the ball and taking steps in between dribbles gave the offensive player an unfair advantage.

It's called carrying, palming or discontinued dribble

I kinda feel t-rip on this one. The funny thing is usually college ball is alot more strict when it comes to rules and calls, but A.I. never got called for carry at G-Town, but once he came into the league they called it instantly and it fucked him up for a minute! But ofcourse bein the great player that he is, he adjusted but dam thats a big change!! Got Em!!

A major difference between college and NBA basketball is the amount of players total in each league. NBA players copy each other because everyone is watching everyone else. This is easy because there are only 30 teams to keep up with.

The problem the league had with the whole Iverson crossover thing is (as I understand it), once Iverson started to do it, the other players saw how successful it was and they began copying it. A carry is a carry regardless of who is doing it. More people started to do it (creating their own variations to it in the process), it draws the attention of the league and they clamped down on it because IT IS a move that violates the rules and gives the offense an unfair advantage over the defense.

It had nothing to do with the league wanting stopping Iverson's super human ability to change directions, lol

That may be tru but I remember when he came into the league with his corn rolls and at that time not many folks were wearing them and it was a new thing. And on top of that he had that off the court jail shit that went down and thats why he wasnt recruited, but ofcourse Thompson (GTown) is gonna give him a chance. But because of all this some say the league or refs in general was kinda black listing him. whether its tru or not who knows but he did come into the league with eyes all over him!! Got Em!!

Nope but hes has the potential to make this a real debate. He hasnt single handedl lead his team to the finals yet nor put up spectacular numbers like AI but he is still young.

Well see...

I would argue that Monta has a slight edge in speed & quickness, at this point. But I don't really see too many similarities in their respective games besides both being really good at taking it to the tin.

average defenders
-Allen Iverson is a 2-time NBA regular-season leader for total steal in 2003 with 225 steals and in 2005 with 180 steals
-Allen Iverson is a 3 time NBA regular-season leader for steals per game in 2001 with 2.5 steals, 2002 with 2.8 steals and in 2003 with 2.7 steals
-Allen Iverson shares the NBA record for most seasons leading league in steals with 3
-Allen Iverson shares the NBA record for most consecutive seasons leading league in steals at 3

if thats average defense I dont know what to consider great defense....obiously, hes undersized....so if a Chauncey Billups gets him on the block, Chauncey will probably win the battle. But AI has pretty much every category locked.
