Great Thread and Great Posts...yall definitely get my respect for this!!!
I've been sayin it for a while now....Hammer is as a West Coast legend (not just Bay Area!!!) as 2Pac, Eazy-E, MAc Dre, Too Short, Dr. Dre, N.W.A is!!!!

They (the media) keeps us (the West Coast) down by taking away our accomplishments and/or downplaying them! Hammer had shoes, his own record company, big ass major arena tours (rap don't have those types no more) worldwide...the dude was even on Oprah a few times!!! They (the media) always talk about the contributions that Run DMC, Kool Herc, and all of those East Coast legends made but they never mention ours (and we keep letting this bullshyt and disrespect happen). We invented platinum!!!! I bet none of yall even knew that tho.. Rap didn't go platinum until the West Coast started to fukk with it. Before that, the highest selling artists went Gold....when the West Coast artists started putting out records...platinum became the norm.....GO DO SOME RESEARCH ON THAT IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME....its well documented!!!

With all due respect, Hammer is the prime example of what not to do if you make it big / strike it rich.

Be it hard core or pop, Hammer was the man and should be respected in this rap game. Most people think, "Yeah if I make it big, hit the lotto this is the first thing I will do..." nine times out of ten we're thinking the wrong thing.

I believe the media has a lot to do with with the Hammer situation...it's the American way, build em' up, hype em' up, tear em' up and spit em out.

Damn shame, but Hammer is very well respected in my book.

hammer did an ok cd with "funky headhunter". i bought the tape way back when. his main downfall was all the people he employed. fool was payin a boatload of money each month. hammer made sure people he grew up had steady income and took care of his folks. dude made it possible for rappers to do commercials and shit. so out of all these muthafuckas that get mad love out west. i think mc hammer should get more love. he been in the game for a long time and certainly deserves legendary status. not only in bay area but nationwide as well

Actually Whodini was the 1st Rap group to go Platinum but Shady Hustle Simmons made moves and waited until Run DMC went platinum so they could be celebrated for being the 1st Rap group to go Plat.

The East Coast did Hammer the same way they did Tupac. He dissed their so-called Kings and they banded together and ridiculed him. Third Bass wanted to defend their label mates and ended up gettin Ran out of Los Angeles and Russell ended up getting shook down by Mike Conception.
