whats missing is true producers( not beat makers) producers.A true producer sees each track, to its completion. Now adays its about a quick buck. Give somebody accouple dollars and they sell you a beat. Back in the day albums use to get produced. You have Kats like Dre and Quik and plenty others who are true producers. Production isn't just making the beat. Production is the whole entire song. To me a beat maker is just a co-producer( that person had some part in the works put together)albums are getting thrown together. Tight beat 10 second concepts and 2-4 hours later a song is done. Bitch this hoe that, strap this shot up that. Artists sitting with a pen and indeed they say creative words and the voice may be different alittle but in reality they are say what you've heard over and over again. Who gonna say whatever was on their mind? Whether its gangsta or not? Who give a fuck whether what you say is pimp, gangsta, or playa if your saying some shit expressing you. Rap use to be expression and that why artist were felt because somebody out there felt them. If you feel it chances are alot more people then you think feel it.

Bay flavor also. It's boring(I'm sorry) I use to love it in 91, 92 but we must grow with the time all the bay shit I here sounds like some bay shit from 91 except not as good.

Thats bad when you can't even compete with your past. LOL

I say to any bay rapper take your time, be creative, get a producer ( a real one) and don't settle for less make your album the best it can possibly be.

Hard work dedication and keep it real to yourself..

The other thing that bothers me so fucken much is all these damn features on your albums fUCK! i HAD ONLY A FEW ON MINE . I want you to here me , not yukmouth, not anybody but me. Thats what your in nthe game for right? So the fans can feel you like they feel Nas, or how they felt Pac?

Lastly!

Bay artist i also notice have no image, none... The only ones to blow and their few and far between had and have their own image. The question should be poised what is yours?

My 38 cents

Tre-8

P.S

I hope that my words have offended you bay rappers, so-called producers and affliates. If so maybe just maybe you'll work alittle harder at that studio session thinking about what punk ass Tre-8 said. Maybe you'll decide as a rapper you want to write and rewrite and rewrite til you get it right. As a producer maybe you'll decide you want to be more involved in what happens to your track, MAYBE. Oh one more thing if your a producer(so-called) why would you want your name on a track with the words produced by and the artist took that hard ass beat you made and fucked it up and now you wasted the beat and everybody says that song sucks! Think about it....

I agree with Tre. I mean production has fell the fuck off in the bay area in the last 3-4 years. And the producers that do got talent have the wrong game plan and play it like Tre said how they just make beats and sell them. Fuck I shouldn't even have an opinion because I aint from the bay and I dont rap or produce, but thats just what I see as a bay area rap fan.

Shit, I didn't start no trend. Cats BEEN letting their feelings be known about the lack of quality in Bay Music on the board. I just came at it from a different angle. I had to break it down the way I saw it to get my point across. If I didn't give a fuck about the music, I wouldn't say shit. I would do MY THANG and use what I KNOW for ME, MYSELF AND I and that would be the end of it. But what good is being at the top when you at the top only cause everybody else is at the very bottom? Mufuckas can say I'm just on here 'hatin' or runnin my mouth or critisizing or whatever but I truly care about the music. And whether you realize it now or not, I'm helping. It's like when your moms told you to eat your vegetables. You didn't want to, you hated doing it, but later on down the road you figured out it was good for you.

I agree wit Tre-8 on the producer thing tho. There aren't too many PRODUCERS out here. There are cats that will give you a beat and not give a fuck what you do with it. There are cats that will you give a beat and you'll ask them for their input and they'll just shrug their shoulders. So what Tre-8 is saying is valid. Personally, I started out just 'making beats' but in the last couple of years or so, I've been 'producing'. You gotta have a vision for your tracks to be a producer. You gotta have a GREAT VISION and GREAT EARS for your tracks to be a GREAT PRODUCER and that comes with experience. Most of these 'beat makers' just lack experience. As a producer you gotta know when your track is going to need a female vocalist or a male vocalist, you gotta have an idea of how long you want the verses and the hooks, you gotta know how to transition from verse to hook and back to verse, you gotta know when that extra sound just isn't needed, whether you need a bridge, etc... Things like that makes a producer. Part of it is making the beat, the other part of it is putting a song together.

See kids, I can be positive, lol

I'm tired of ya'll speaking on Bay this....... Bay that. True that there's a gang of weak shit comin outta the Bay, but look at the quantity of artists here. Of course there's gonna be your share of booboo albums. But no one ever gives credit where credit is due. Instead of taking all this time to put down the weak shit, why don't ya'll take the time and RECOGNIZE THE GOOD SHIT thats coming outta the Bay. The Quality albums. Ya'll always talkin how the radio stations don't show no love for local artist and thats 112% true, but if ya'll don't support each other and believe in each other and come together, none of ya'll are gonna get the recognition you looking for.

Tre- You should not be the one speakin on Bay shit cause you didn't even know half the artists I spoke on from the Bay. Don't get mad, but I'm just speakin the truth. Why don't you talk about why Sac niggas shit be garbage?

There's been at least 8 good albums put out in the bay/Sac area this year.

Done Deal Fam- Runs in the Fam
Yukmouth-United Ghettos of America
C-Bo- West Coast Mafia
Mac Mall- Mackin Speaks Louder than Words
Cozmo- Coz Pachino
Jacka- The Jacka
JT the Bigga Figga- Hustle Relentless
The Luniz- Silver and Black

and to me there's plenty of other ones that are pretty damn good too. I was thinking the other day about all the bay area releases I've heard in the last year, and I think I came up with 12 solid ones that I bump. As far as having an "Artist" standpoint, these albums sound different than anything else out.

I don't know what you guys are expecting? We all want the bay to blow up but there is NO ROOM for 50 bay area rappers to be blowing up. If you look at whats gettin play on the radio the most, theres like 6 artists from New York, 4 or 5 from LA, and 5 from down south/midwest. Therefore, I think its a little bit of an overestimation to expect everyone to put out quality music. If the bay blows up it's gonna be a handful of artists that do it just like it is everywhere else.

And I hate using the radio as an example, but radio music seems to be considered somewhat quality since it is sold in the millions. I mean, of course all these other areas have underground scenes as well...but they arent doing nearly as well with the exception of New York. You don't hear many people in LA bumping underground LA rap unless they know the artist, you DO hear people in Southern California bumping underground Bay Area rap. You hear people in the Midwest bumping bay rap, Im sure there are cats down south doin it too. I know certain areas have crews that hold down the underground scene (ie Hypnotize Posse in Memphis) but for the most part the underground is dead there too. It's not the bay area, its everywhere. Its not that the artists suck, its that in 1994 gangsta rap was a relativly new and expanding enterprize that is receding now.

you can blame producers and artist, i do both produce and spit.... and i see ill make a nice beat and someone will buy and spit to it half fast, or i may suggust tryin this or that, and they like, naw, its cool like that...... im like, ok.... its your song, but some mafuccaz is heard headed in this game thinkin every lyric they lay or how they lay it is perfect, and that the engeneer can just fix all your problems in pro tools.... personally i dont record anyone that cant lay there lyrics within 3-4 tries, i think if you cant lay it down right, then you need to practice the verses or song more before you lay it down.... also, i think artist need to be more picky about there beats, i see mafuccaz takin beats all the time, that are free, and the beat aint shit.....

producer wise, to many of them seem like they dont even want to be in the studio, or they just too scared to tell the rapper that he fucced up, and should do it again.... instead they just go along with what the artist sayd, either cuz they lazy or just dont give a fucc.... if you lazy and dont give a fucc, get out the game..... good muzic takes patience, i dont care how fast you say you can knocc a song out or whatever..... fact comes down to how much time and effort did you put in, and the quality will speak for itself....

True.
Another thing is loops. People need to stop rapping over looped beats. Add something in. Break the beat down. Change the flow of the song.

Man I have to speak on this, first of all, let's be honest here.....
This thread should read "WHY ALL RAP SUCKS"....

It's ironic that you single out the Bay as sucking but the rap genre is still biting us.
I mean the only creativity to come out in the last few years has been out of the Bay, just ask Snoop and JayZ.

I'll be honest, Bay rap ain't what it used to be but rap in general is weak now dayz....
That partially explains why so many lame cats are getting radio play such as, Ludacris, DMX, Nelly, JayZ, Eminem, etc.
Honestly, even if the Bay was droppin heat after heat like it did back in the early 90's, who gives a fuck?
The rest of the nation would still be sleepin on us,
while the rest of the rap world will continue to bite on us....

I admit that there's no more creativity in the rap game, I think Techn9ne is the only MC comin original now days.
And that's pretty sad....

Why should I sell a track for $200 an then spend HOURS or even DAYS in a studio with a rapper? Shit, Dre an them CREATE songs cause they get PAID ENOUGH to help SCULPT THEM!!! PLUS, rappers will LISTEN to their input...If I tried to tell some cats what I think would sound dope they would give me this little bitchy face like "You don't rap, why should I listen to you"?

It goes back to the motto "You get what u pay for an u pay for what u get"

Oh yeah and to add one more thing...If the shit's garbage then it's the ARTISTS FAULT ultimatley...cause HE'S the one that let the shit get released...If u ain't happy with yer product then go back to the drawing board!! PLAIN AN SIMPLE!!! You have the ultimate say in whether it goes to the shelves or not...NOT THE PRODUCER

I PERSONALY DONT THINK BAY RAP SUCKS, I THINK BAY RAP IS TITE, IT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. AS FAR AS HOW POPULAR IT IS MAINSTREAM THATS DIFFERENT. FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS PRODUCED OR MADE MUSIC BEFORE YOU KNOW THAT IT IS EASY TO MAKE MUSIC THAT YOU LIKE,(BUT NOT WERE OTHER PEOPLE LIKE IT) BUT IF YOU WANT TO BE MAINSTREAM WIT IT AND MAKE SOME SCRILLA YOU GOTTA AJUST TO WERE THE MARKET IS AT or EVEN SELL OUT. OR JUST COME OUT WIT SOME OFF THA TOP STUFF NO ONE HAS HEARD YET, OR THAT HASNT BEEN DONE YET. WHICH ISNT EXACTLY EASY TO DO.

I THINK BAY RAP SOUNDS THE BEST WHEN PEOPLE COLLABORATE, SOMETIMES STRAIT SOLOS ARENT KNOCKIN CUZ YOU GET TIRED OF HEARING VOICE.

It's a combination of many things

First of all,we all know most of these are'nt solo albums. There's 10 to 15 features, alot of the hooks are cat n dah hat bullshit without creativity, basically the same as the 2000 compilations that are being put out,but people must be buying them, because there still droppin like crazy.Secondly,There's no vibe to these solo's.You can't sit back and vibe to these like you could on an old YBB release because you got a million features now,not just Dubee or Mall spittin verse after verse, puttin you right there with'em,seeing his life through his words. Now you gotta hear 16 from so and so,16 from his homie,16 from some guy who thinks he's Pac.It's trash now.Beats are beats. It's up to the artist to have a musical ear,and that's totally uncontrolable for the consumer to change so there's no need to even get into that. You also got the derlict rappers who just want to see there face on a cover. These are the albums with no mix-down or mastering. This shit is just pushed out as a final product for us idiots to buy,yet it sounds like it was recorded on an airport runway. There are quality albums still coming out though, but it's just 10x harder to find them now. There also seems to be a flood of nerds who are putting out albums now aswell.Kats who got one friend in the business, and he only hangs with the nerd cuz he has loot.It works both way also, you get the rich kid who thinks by starting a record lable(does'nt care about the art),he will be a thug now,cuz his money is gonna get him love from street kats who wanna make records.:)see photo on album line above). That's a sad reality folks. There are nerds who will do anything possible to be with the "in crowd".

FUCK COMPILATIONS
FUCK FEATURES
FUCK 16 BARS ON A TRACK
