black people= racist with words
white people= racist with power and actions

i can think of few things in history that black people have personally done to white people that were intentionally harmful towards that race as a whole

for the other way around there are too many to name

black or white?

is this based off history? or racism on this message board?

if your basing racism off of history than whites come out as the definate "winner"...what really is there to base black racism towards whites from? their hasn't been ANY black groups in this country that compare to Jim Crow laws, the KKK, etc...and no, racism towards whites on a message board doesnt come close, especially when you consider that most of the so called blacks (or any other minority), on here may be a white...

before anyone tries to attack me as some "black extremist"...i really aint the type of dude that blames whites for my problems, i'm just answering the OP's question...

Very true, but I also see a lot of racism towards Mexicans, or ''latinos'', that is laughed off, or dismissed as a joke. When someone makes a comment about ''sending the wetback across the border so he can have 20 kids and break pinatas''...it's funny.
oh great the "double standard" their is no "double standard", if i went out of my way to attack every mexican on this board calling ya'll "wet backs and spics", you think i'd still have my membership? don't be idiotic man...i'd definately be banned..

most of these types of jokes i've seen on this board come from other mexicans (or people pretending to be mexican)....and if this is the case than their is no "double standard" like you've stated...if you can't see the difference between that, and someone telling "n!ggers to go back to africa" then you have a problem....

Don't base it off history or the people on this board. I just mean people in general, as a society, everybody discriminates another race in one way or another, but who expresses it more. I think white people hide their discriminations more then black people(with the exception of straight racist ass group's such as KKK)...black people are less hesitant to say something about whites or blacks, or even mexicans. I'm not saying it's a bad thing or a good thing, just an observation.

I'd reply with something witty but I'm pretty fucking dumb.
I wasn't trying to be an asshole but this question you raised is pretty silly. Let me ask you a question though. Do you understand the difference between being prejudice and being a racist?

No, I know its a question that doesn't get an answer, just opinions. A person who is a racist person holds many beliefs to why other races are inferior, being prejudice is having a preconcieved idea or thought judging somebody based on personal experiences.

prej·u·dice (prj-ds) KEY

NOUN:

An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts.
A preconceived preference or idea.
The act or state of holding unreasonable preconceived judgments or convictions. See Synonyms at predilection.
Irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular group, race, or religion.
Detriment or injury caused to a person by the preconceived, unfavorable conviction of another or others.
TRANSITIVE VERB:
prej·u·diced , prej·u·dic·ing , prej·u·dic·es
To cause (someone) to judge prematurely and irrationally. See Synonyms at bias.
To affect injuriously or detrimentally by a judgment or an act.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

rac·ism (rszm) KEY

NOUN:

The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

OTHER FORMS:

I think a lot of people have the real problem of racism a little missinterpreted. The real, root, problem with racism is hardly the next door neighbor that calls someone spic, chink, gook, cracker, etc. The real problem with racism is the collective group effect of the power model.

For instance, if a Black man calls a white man a cracker, honky or what not, it may hurt the white mans feelings a little, or damage his self esteem for a moment. But, the white man will get over it and go on enjoying his position in society as a white man. Whereas a Black man, or person of color, when called a racist name, has his position of power reinforced that he is apart of the group that is not in power in this country.

In all, the real problem with racism is the collective group effect and position of power that each group (both more and less powerful) plays. To the WHite people who read this, you should be greatful that you enjoy your position of power that you have been given because you are born white. Races have no biological meaning at all. THey are purely socially constructed. And, from those social constructs, groups of people have been grouped into different positions of power with the white man on top.

I used to teach a class in college and one day the entire class got into a discussion about what is racism. We came to the coclusion that in order to be racist that a person or group has to possess some type of power.

So, by possess power, you mean any person in a position to give orders? Or you mean any person with alotta money? Would you consider a person with a strong mind and vocabulary smart(like charles manson) a person of power?
Or somebody who holds weight in society and whos opinions are shared by alotta people?(like larry king)

Give me an example of a racist in a power position.

Like for example a government official has a position of power. There are many racist government officials and they have the power to act on their racist point of view.
