When i first started rappin i was like 17-18 yrs old. All i ever wanted to do is be as professional as i can when recording. as far a sound quality and a dope ass engineer. When i went to Crystal Clear Studios. I didn't even know what to expect really. I just picked the first studio i thought sounded tight in the phone book. I had to buy all these ADAT and DAT tapes. Tracking everything out. I used to be like damn this is how the Pro's do the shit. I was spendin hella bread. Even 11 years ago i was spendin $50 an hour for studio time. Ever since then i was like this is how its gotta be done for now on.

THEN...gay ass Protools and Cakewalk came around. Then everything started sounding shitty. The fullness and great quality started fading away.
Even 11 years ago. Those songs i recorded and mastered on ADATS then mastered to the DATS. Those songs have a better quality sound than any track i've ever recorded to date.

Crystal Clear was the only studio i recorded at that actually used ADATS.
Who else feels the same about the sound quality between Protools and ADATS? Cuz i really been thinking about switching back to that. Even if it cost a grip more. I aint trippin.

Shout out to Brian. you was the man back then homie.

I recorded part of my first and second albums at CCS. Brian is a cool cat, that's good too cause that nigga is swoll as a muhfucka. Dont wanna get on his bad side lol. Always good quality, cool environment, and if you lucky a superstar might slide thru there. I get my records mastered over there too. He does a good job. I havent been over there in a few years tho. Dont know if they still open. I had good times in that spot tho. Hustle Out.

ive been recording at edible sounds since 97. we used to use adats but of course switched to pro tools..adats were cool but my mixes nowdays are way cleaner.. but that may be because edible has always updated theyre equipment and has gotten better at mixing over the years.. i really dont know.. back then my mixes were clean , but my new shit is waaaay crispier

i feel you on the crispier tho. Protools makes everything sound clean , brings the sounds out alot, no doubt. but it doesn't have that fullness is what i was really tryna say. ADAT makes everything sound thick. thats what i've noticed.
Like sometime i hear other peoples cd and it dont even sound like they're doubling up there voice. except for the ad-libs. But they're voice still sound hella powerful without the doubles. and i be thinking. itz either a million dollar mic or tape. but i know that aint no protools. ya feel what im sayin.

anybody gotta studio that got shit soundin like that?

$50 an hour sounds like it wouldn't even be worth it to record there unless you have a big fan base and know your gonna get your money back.
so if someone doesn't have a fanbase. thats a reason to make shitty music. LOL maybe thats why you wouldn't have a fan base.

thats cheap for a analog studio.im talkin reel to reel and mackie boards...........

thats the problem, back in the day you had to pay alot of money just to record one song.now a days the scenes so flooded cus anybody can record for cheap now.it just sounds like shit now unless you really know what your doing..........

I never understood why Mac Dre went cheap/digital. His pre Thizz shit was so clean...........but when he went cheap/digital he blew up.........

its analog vs digital.........

compare 2 inch reel to protools...........

vinyl to cd..........

old school analog keyboard to digital...........

analog always sounds fuller.digi's sharp.............

dj quik said the same shit about adat/reel to reel

i remember in a scratch mag a wile back dj quik was talkin hella bad about the quality of computer digital shit and was saying how hes bringing back that thick analog sound wit that album "trauma" and have producers jocking his sound but after that album flopped he jumped on that computer digital sound.

i liked trauma though.pretty good album.

Its who mix/masters your shit(everybody has a different tecnique or method not to mention different ear for music) .maybe you should try to take them tracks to a new engineer real quick before giving up on the protools.
