And you ALWAYS have to promote your album no matter what if you want it to sell.
Would you rather get $.25/cd and sell 2,000,000 or get $10/cd and sell 20,000? Would you rather be in position where you can expand in other areas such as acting, endorsements, etc.. or would you rather be stuck hoping that all the same regional sales you got last time are going to repeat this time around?
Do the math homie, it's real simple. You'll find out real quick that someone like The Game's hustle is about 1000x stronger than your favorite local rapper.
You want it to stay independant but you want it to have commercial limelight & success. You want everybody and their mama praising the bay. It don't work like that. Don't expect to receive without giving up something to get it. That's just common sense before anything else.
Outside of a small handful of people, who do you believe is actually eating off music? What are the chances that your favorite rapper pays his rent with drug money, 9-5 money, or any other money than from music?

when i say overrated, what i meant was who is the most overrated rapper inside the bay rap scene. for example " MAYN MESSY MARV IS THE BEST RAPPER IN THE BAY RIGHT NOW..." or " MAC DRE IS THE KING OF THE BAY AND IS THE GREATEST ARTIST THE BAY HAS EVER PRODUCED" . thats what i meant by overrated. when a bunch of bay niggaz hype up a certain bay artist to another bay area fan about the artist being so great which in reality is really average or just good but not great. everyone in the bay are underdogs, i know that but im talkin' about inside the bay area rap circle when i made this thread. so pay attention my weebles. everyone in here started crying about "aww i hate this thread, its a hate thread" and "aww fuck this thread were all underdogs and nobody in the bay is overrated"
First of all, no one is talking shit. Like we've all said before, it's an opinion, no more, no less. We're not hating and you're not dickriding. I don't know where the assumption came from that those of us who responded wouldn't want to see a local artist go major came from, but I can say for myself that if any bay artist went major, I would be happy for them, regardless of whether or not I like their music. Let's take Bash for instance: I wasn't feeling his album "The Smoking Nehpew", but I wish Bash the best of luck and I hope one day he goes platinum. My opinion of an artist's music has nothing to do with how I feel about their past, present, or future successes.
