Anyone upgraded to Windows 7?

Just wondering if its worth it. I got the disk in the mail when it was released cuz I bought a computer over the summer and I got the upgrade free. I'm just wondering if its worth it to back up all my files and reinstall all my programs and stuff. or if there isnt a big enough difference to matter.

I would have posted this in the technology forum but I couldn't seem to find it :eek:

Windows 7 God Mode

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.

By creating a new folder in Windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:

LinuxRules.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.

I don't influence anyone regarding new forums because I don't really care either way, but if I had to vote I'd say NO. I'll stick with Engadget, Lifehacker, BGR, Crackberry, Neowin, Hardforum, etc. A tech forum here would be like a gangsta rap forum on a computer site...

Web 2.0 Suicide Machine Offs Your Online Identity

Sure, joining Twitter and Facebook seemed like a good idea at the time, but maybe you've changed your mind and want your life back. Web 2.0 Suicide Machine erases your persona like you were never there.

If you're sick and tired of being beholden to the siren song of constantly updating your social networks, it might be time to get out. Trouble is, you can't just suddenly stop updating or your friends might harass—or worse, "poke" you—to find out if you're okay.

Simply deleting your accounts won't necessarily solve the problem because you'll still leave little traces of yourself all over the social networking sites that are as easily associated with you as a fingerprint. Web 2.0 Suicide Machine completely eradicates your entire existence from the servers of sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, and MySpace. (Facebook currently blocks the webapp's IP address, so you're out of luck there for the time being.)

To use the tool you'll need to hand over your login credentials for the corresponding webapp (you won't need them anymore anyway, right) and let the the Suicide Machine do its thing. If you do decide to off yourself, be aware it can't be undone—so be sure you're serious.

Are you so over social networking that you're ready to disappear yourself, or do you want to stick around and enjoy the party a little longer? Share your thoughts in the comments.

did some nerd actually sit there and try every possible set of letters and numbers until he came up with that, or is it easier than that?

Windows 7 the "Fastest Selling Operating System in History"

According to Microsoft's director of marketing Craig Beilinson, "Windows 7 is by far the fastest selling Operating System in history." And while Beilinson doesn't offer specific numbers, we're not terribly surprised by the claim. Consider that after only having been out for a few weeks, 41% of Lifehacker readers were using Windows 7 as their main OS—a number that's likely only grown. We realize the folks who read Lifehacker are often early adopters, but it's still a mind-blowing adoption rate. [Fast Company via Download Squad]
