I haven't been to church in about 14 years. The sermons disgust me too. I even get pissed going to religious weddings. BUT, I was going through some shit a few months ago and didn't really have anywhere else to turn. Kinda felt like I hit rock bottom. So I said fuck it and went to confession. I ended up talking to a retired priest, and told him I believe in a god, but don't really buy into any kind of religion. The dude actually gave me some really good, non-religious, down to earth advice and perspective.
I think if you can get past the brainwashing, lets-convert-everyone attitude, and strip away all the bullshit, there is some benefit to talking to someone about religion. I'm still not going to church, I still think the bible and christianity are bullshit, but talking to a good priest really changed my perspective on things and gave me a tiny bit more respect for the people who are going for the right reasons.
