In Your Own Opinion, Which Producer's Sound Defines Each Region...and why...?

The West, East, South, and Midwest all have distinct sounds in Hip Hop, so which producer's sound, do you think defines that particular region.

Discuss.

That's a tough one to ask in 2007 because a lot of music (regardless of region) sounds a lot alike. Certain producers have their own sound but it isn't necessarly region defining anymore.

yeah thats a tough one since alot of mainstream rappers use mainstream producers like Pharell, Timberland, Scott Storch etc and their shit doesn't have a regional flavor to it just sounds commercial

For Example, my favorite bay area producer is Rob Lo but his shit doesn't really sound like traditional bay area rap production for the most part, sounds like some east coast shit but its dope and it fits in well with the rappers he produces

I think he means Bosko from Portland. He has produced numerous Bay Area acts including E-40 and Spice 1. E-40 presented his album last year. He also sings.

Being in Sac, Im sure you would have heard his stuff before. Regardless, here is his MySpace page.

And yes, he helped mold the Mob music scene and uses his signature Talkbox in alot of his tracks.

I agree Peete. The sounds aren't really as distinctive as they were in the 90's. But my question is more along the lines of...

When you think of a West Coast song...which producer's sound pops into your head first...?

And when you think of an East Coast song...which producer's sound pops into your head first...?

Etc...

Me personally...just like on some first instinct shit...would be:

West:

DJ Quik

East:

DJ Premier

South:

DJ Toomp/Mannie Fresh
Midwest:

This one is the toughest for me, because I really can't even pinpoint the sound that could really define that region...but I would have to go with Traxter.

See the thing is (with me anyway) I stopped thinking in terms of geography a loooooooooooong time ago.

Shiiiet, Scott Storch's sound can just as easily define all regions because everybody from every region gets a Storch track.
