Lots of people didn't particularly care for it, myself included.
I like both versions of his first album better than this one...

On the real, I agree that his first album was way better, yes BUT!
The level that Hammer reached with that album and one of the many singles "Can't Touch This" which reached him to super stardom. He was even a guest on SNL due to this album. When I say embraced, I refer to worldwide status.
Once SNL asks you to be a guest and has you performing in their skits. You pretty much famous enough to have them recognize you. I think those that oppose are in the minority.
Not to mention the endorsements and even the MC Hammer doll that came due to the level that the album took him to.
How he chose to spend his money, well...that's a different story.
