its all about shows nowadays bro. shows and merchandise. consider your self lucky if people are even going out of their way to burn or download your music. you gotta understand that the 90s are over bro and that way of doing business is a thing of the past. yes there are still people that buy albums but in ten years i would not be surprised if cds didn't exist any more. its not just music but also movies, videogames, software and anything else that can be stolen in the digital world. my homie works in the videogame industry and he told me pretty soon people will be buying all their games on line through their ps3 or whatever.

Nothing, because people don't know the time, effort and money that goes into making quality music...that or they just don't give a fuck and figure why buy when they can steal it without anything happening to them for doing the crime.

for physical cd's, I would add some sort of "extra" that you can't get from d/l the album. Recent CD's that have used this idea that I've bought:
E-40: made the liner notes into a creative poster
Evidence: released a CD/DVD with music videos
Sean Price: Shipped a T-shirt with the cd.

Like what was said earlier, physical cd sales are down, and the best way to make money is to perfect your live show and sell merch/cd's there...the loyal fans are the only ones buying cds anyways.

"whats going to make people want to buy your album and not get it the bootleg way" .....

nothing, physical cd sales will only delcine more and more every year. Digital sales is were its at "now" but that will delcline also do to bootleging. Live performences are the big money maker and always will be because you cant bootleg a LIVE performence. At these live performences would be the best way to actually SELL you merchindize like CD's, SHIRTS, POSTERS, ect ect. Artist these days need to set up a operation like this^ if they want to move units or just plan make money.
if you think about it, that doesn't make any sense

because mtv still broadcasts concerts(so people who arent in the concert can still watch the show), and merchandise can always be counterfeited too(mac dre shirts, posters etc)

good idea but how many shows will you need to have a week to really make some money i mean what bayarea unknown artist get shows and get $500 a show impossible the best way iz to flood the streets with posters for like 2 to 3 months flyers and free music that get the mind focused on you and what you have going on in the streets so after the promo run is done aim for a responsible number of cd s to press up lets say 500 bam buy you doing that it shows how much the promo run has paid off if you do 3 months of promo you should sell those 500 copies with no problem that means you need a reorder so bam hers another 500 copies even if the store wants more you keep giving them that 5 then you start on shows thats if your an independent artist

ok digital is cool but why its more ways to see your money with out giving up any percentage i could get one song and do the same thing in the streets .

you can take one song press it up go to the press up man if you have a juug on the cd s lets say you get 1000 for 275 i could take those same cd s and sell for two dollars a peice and make 2k so whats the difference people just dont want to grind any more who wont buy a cd for two dollars thats a bag of chips and a red hot burrito a turf meal

hand to hand sales.

what are some of your ideas?

what do you think would make people sell more physical cd's?
an actual pressed package, not a cdr with hand writing. $5 for a cd on the street and if properly presented 1 out of 10 will buy. systematically start in your hometown, work every neighborhood cornerstore and gas station then move to the next city and so forth. alot of rappers are afraid of hard work. with technology and other than digital sales even the known artists cant sell. oh yeah, dont present yourself as the next big thing. stay humble but be consistent on your grind as in 5 days a week, like a job, if its your dream.

i hope you are kidding. watching a show on tv is way different then watching a show live. you also could buy counterfeit nikes, they're called bikes but most people with money rather have the real deal.

i never said it was the same,

why would a person rather go to a concert instead of watching it at a tv..

but rather buy a bootleg instead of buying the real thing?

no disrespect bro, but what you were trying to say to indo was basically that what he said made no sense and now your saying the total opposite.

^^ have you ever been to a concert

IMo there are few things better than a sick ass live show

BTW bay rap shows are mediocre at best at least from my experience

real talk. we need to become better performers, including myself. ive been to one too many shows where the rapper does not even rap at all. all they do is pretend to rap over their cd. i ain't hating on folks rapping over their album but to not rap at all is a complete joke. some folks don't even move their lips and pretend to rap too lol.

I dont think there is anything more you can do . Most consumers mind is already made up they are either a downloader or a cd buyer. The downloaders are only going to go out and buy there favorite artist for the cd jacket and a better quallity cd.

Doing shows is cool rap concerts are also at a low cuz most places wont allow rap shows and a majority of these bay acts dont even have fans over 21 for club dates.
