Shit has changed. Kids get out less much because the ease and access of "entertainment" indoors.

Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY needs 1 hour of sunlight a day. If you don't get that 1 hour, you're suffering from light deprivation. If you sit around the house or office all day and don't have any energy, then get a clue...

I started working at 11, I know what you mean man...

It wasn't "What do you want for dinner"

It was "make your own dinner" or even some nights "What are you making for us?"

It wasn't "Are you doing your homework." It was "You better be doing your homework.

Not necessarily.

Behavioral problems in children can often be attributed to environmental factors, such as lack of good parenting (inconsistency in reinforcement/punishment/abuse/neglect, etc etc).

However, there *are* cases, (ADHD, Learning Disorder, Opposition Disorder, Conduct Disorder, etc) in which behavioral problems have been proven to be genetic and are often present at birth. These disorders are extremely difficult to deal with, no matter how good the parenting is.

For example, kids with ADHD suffer from inattention (attention defecit). They simply CANNOT focus, no matter how hard they try. It's a neurological dysfunction. Here are some of the inattentive symptoms of ADHD according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition, Text Revision (2000).
This is true as well...

but some kids use this as an excuse for a lack of self discipline.

If your kid think he/she has it, or you suspect he/she has it, then you need to read up on the proper information, get educated on the matter, and then take a self evaluation and you also do the evaluation for them. It's not accurate, yet if your child scores high on it, you might want to look into it.

After that, visit a doc, or if you feel like a doc isn't going to really pay attention to what your kid really needs and hands him adderall or something like that...

Then consult a neurologist. There's an expert on ADD and ADHD right here in SoCal and has even put out a couple books proving ADD is real when there was skeptics.

ADD IS DIAGNOSABLE AND A TREATABLE DISEASE.

They use brain spect imaging in order to examine the brain and find out how your brain works in a relaxed state and when you try to concentrate.

So, if your kid has it, you probably have it as well. It is hereditary, and there is more than one type of ADD, matter of fact, there is six.

If you want more info, get this book.

Healing ADD: The Breakthrough Program That Allows You to See and Heal the 6 Types of ADD

http://www.amazon.com/Healing-ADD-B...bs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233606200&sr=8-4

Whatever you do, get to the bottom of it. Don't let it linger that your child or you MIGHT have it, and inadvertently use it as a excuse when you feel stressed out that you can't do something.

so basiclly the kid is fucked and no one can do anything about it? oh wait the parents can.. so if it persists its the parents fault for not learn how to deal and help with it and for just being dip shit parents in sum cases.....

and aint nothing wrong with bonding with video games. it aint like that's all there is im pretty sure most parents wit heads on their shoulders know that.. but nowadyas parents are to busy with themselves. they rather do forself than do for the family.

yep pretty much, thats why I was showing the kid the ropes rather than his perents. A kid with ADD and Autism is hard to manage but if your doing your job as a parent to learn about it and specially learn about your kid, shit will change for the better, kids like this just need more attention, and if the shit is done right the kid will go on to do some big shit, a lot of these kids with Autism and ADD have special abilities, just gotta get through the lil things there not good at and there differences to get to there better understanding.

Unfortunetly, you fail.

This has ZERO to do with ADHD. This is 100% about the parents.

BTW, I have two friends that are diagnosed with ADHD and my phone vendor...all of them OWN their own companies and 2 of the three are the outdoor type....inculding motorcross, hiking, and marathon running.

ADD and Autism...not even on the same PLAYING field as far as mental disorders are concerned. Not sure why you used those two as exmaples.

There both really different of course but my main point was these kids with these disorders have special abilities if unlocked just gotta get through the lil things there not good at and there differences to get to there better understanding this goes both ways. Autism being the hardest to deal with but its possible.

I dont get what you mean by this statement. Are you saying people with ADD/autism, have super powers?

and there differences to get to there better understanding this goes both ways. Autism being the hardest to deal with but its possible.
This can be said for people WITHOUT a mental disorder.

Whopping asses/Spanking is fine as long as its not over done and the kid understands the reasoning of why he is being punished.

I dunno man, I've been through the corporal punishment thing, and it doesn't do anything except make the kids more secretive and distant from the parent, IMO.

I'm trying to develop more of a friendship with my son so that he'd think twice about doing certain things not out of fear, but out of him not wanting to dissapoint me.
