it's out in the open so i guess i must explain myself or whatnot.

trip, they got a WHOLE SECTION with east coast and down south mixes that are DOPE at that tower but some janky ass jacked beat west coast mixes. the west isn't even reppin in their own cities and stores.

simply put, i'm sick of these wack ass "mixtapes" i'm seeing out in the bay/west coast right now. them shits are garbage. i can't think of one that i can listen to all the way through (the majority of mad idiot's mixes are not west coast shit, done deal, cellski, wcm, perv p, guce, etc etc). THESE "MIXTAPES" PUT OUT BY RECORD LABELS/ARTISTS ARE NOT MIXTAPES. (i did like that messy marv jealousy remix tho) when ppl talk about lack of respect for the game and the history of hip-hop, fake mixtapes (better known as jacking for beats albums) are in violation of that. go listen to some clue, some big mike, some whoo kid (i got a tape by that cat from 1998 so ya'll who think he got fame by riding 50's dick don't know shit), some ron g, some mothafuckin mista cee and primo. recognize where this shit came from and what a mixtape is and what it's about. there is no dj on the west holding it down for the west with a mixtape series featuring cats for the west, and it's a damn shame. (note that every song on there has someone from the west on it, mainstream or local)

you might be thinking, why are mixtapes important?
the following are just a small portion of rappers who built their careers off of mixtape hype:
lil flip
50 cent
diplomats
j. hood (d-block)
joe buddens
esg
fabolous
etc, etc, etc there's more, feel free to add to the list if you like
mixtapes are for breaking new artists (like yourself cipher)

the nigga quinn told me that niggaz would be at my head for this but i said fuck it i gotta do it b/c it's a necessary part of hip hop. like kid capri said in a source interview regarding mixtapes, "at any given time anybody that wasn't doing real good, a cat can say yo where's my dough for using my shit on your tape?" and like spice 1 said in that wca(?) interview, everybody on the west is struggling right now fighting over chicken scratch which is 110% true. but fuck it it's gotta be done.

right now the south got dj smallz puttin out that fire. ny got big mike and whoo kid, clue and kay slay. who the fuck we got? nobody. so... are cats gonna stand in the way of progress b/c they aren't getting broke off bread?

@ cipherminds, the song is hot no doubt so i figured i'd put it out there. and yep, some of STS posted songs got used. thanks dude. but i didn't use the shit i wasn't feeling which is how it should be.

the shit is not free (to make, distribute or whatever) (and i've never actually gotten a free mixtape except at a few record industry events) but it is not a full price cd either b/c it is a mixtape. cd is like 7-8 bucks, normal mixtape price on the east coast and internet. ANY ARTIST MIXTAPE OR MIXTAPE IN GENERAL THAT COSTS MORE THAN $7-8 IS GAFFLING YOU and getting over b/c they didn't pay shit for the beats and probably didn't even master the fucking CD.

anyways, cd was put out more for magazine and artist promotion than to stack bread (how much real money do you think i stand to make from this, honestly??) but i hope this explains, and if anything else then holla .

would you rather sell 1-5k units b/c nobody has heard of you or 5-10k?

and mixtapes are 10x doper than compilations, though 10x less legal haha

much love for coppin

"getting away with it" nah my contact is on there holla if you got a problem and we'll resolve it but as far as i'm concerned i'm starting some shit that's untouched really on the west and the shit is a movement.

one last though on artist mixtapes - if i don't like/know about the artist then why the fuck am i going to pick it up? so really, that "mixtape" does nothing to gain them more fans(cause they ain't giving the shit away for free either), it's more a lame attempt to make some easy money.

I agree with Block Report. I did not know this was a mixtape but if you put for promotional use only in the back it should be coo lol.
But there are some westcoast dj's that are doing it for the west. Dj's like DJ warrior and Vlad is putting more and more westcoast artists. But ya my man Dj Smallz brings nothing but heat for the south. I see what your doing and I am all for it. But for mixtapes you should use pressed CDr's.
"ANY ARTIST MIXTAPE OR MIXTAPE IN GENERAL THAT COSTS MORE THAN $7-8 IS GAFFLING YOU and getting over b/c they didn't pay shit for the beats and probably didn't even master the fucking CD. " With the expection for donedeal I agree. Done deal actually masterd their tape.

First off homie, ya aint gonna make any friends with statements like that lol....Me AND my big homie T-Ski been puttin it down for years so don't say the Bay ain't got nobody. Also cats like Mind Motion and MANY other quality DJs doin their thing.

Question: Do you actually MIX the shit? Or are you just putting songs on a CD...cause if it's a mixtape that's one thing...If you just puttin mp3s etc onto a CD then THAT'S a bootleg

I TOTALLY agree with you however about how cats in the Bay react to mixtapes...That's one of the things that's stoppin us from blowin. It ain't a bootleg if I spin yer shit cause all it can do for u is help you. If someone hears your cut on my tape and like it, then they're GOING to buy your album. Bay cats don't put out singles anyway lol. But as I said before, it aint a genuine mixtape if someone just makes a bootleg compilation.

Another word of advice tho: Maybe on your next shit, make it a bit more obvious that it IS a mixtape instead of a thrown together compilation. And if you ARE going to include Bay cats on yer shit, do what I do and just give em a courtesy call askin if they mind...Hell they MIGHT even wanna contribute to yer shit!

the only problem with that is that if you put promo only on it then ya can't sell it at certain spots (which is why cellski stopped doing that after vol. 1)

tha barcode is jacked lolz, and they are cd-rs.

vlad had like 2-3 bay cats on his last tape, but what i'm talking about is a just bay/west coast mixtape.

True but vlad got an exlusive The Game mixtape coming up. Dj Warrior is all about the west. Its LA but its better then nothing. T-ski is putting it down for the bay also. If they are CD-R they should not go for $7.

Are you trying to make a profit or actually trying to promote the artists? If so long as you make your money back it should be good. And you are putting it on CD-R so your not spending so much money.

@mark 7 - my statements about bay area djs are overly general and i guess you're taking them personally, so i guess i'll clarify them. i've heard your mixes and they're good, but never seen them anywhere?
i was reserring more to what i hear on kmel (on the block is a sham, as stated in a previous post)

re: it not saying mixtape in big bold letters - i think that is corny as fuck to do and thats why i didn't do it

but i've been to la (where you hear major love for LA artists during prime radio hours) and nyc where they show much love (they were playing 2 gunz up by d-block a long time ago before it became blown up) and that was what i was referring to. the bay gives their artists play on sunday nights from 11-1am when no one (another generalization) is listening.

this is the new mad idiot tracklisting:

1. Intro 2. E-40 Act a Ass 3. G Unit Stunt 101 4. Balance & Frontline We Dont Stunt 5. Ja Rule Clap Back 6. 2 Pac & Outlawz Lost Souls 7. Obie Trice & Nate Dogg The Set-Up 8. Suga Free Angry Enuff 9. Federation & E-40 Hyphy 10. Knocturnal & Snoop Dogg The Way i Am Remix 11. Too Short & E-40 Shake That Money Remix 12. Ying Yang Twins Salt Shaker 13. Frontline & Ea Ski What is it? 14. Big Tymers This How we Do 15. Hi C & DJ Quik Let Me Know 16. Jayz & Pharrell Change Clothes 17. Now City After Hours 18. Clipse Pussy 19. FamLay & Lil Flip Rck & Roll Remix 20. Juvenil & Mannie Fresh In My Life 21. Sly Boogie Feat Mack 10 Crooked I Kurupt 2 Pac Roscoe Jay o Felony & E-40 California Remix 22. Booyah Tribe Eminem & B Real 911 23. Westside Connection Getignit 24. 2 Pac & BIG Runnin 25. Nas Bravehearts & Lil Jon Quick to Back Down 26. Lil Scrappy & Lil John Head Bussa 25. EA Ski & E-40 Keep it PI.

it's about 70% west coast, and 60% commercial. that's what i am talking about. i'm talking 100% west coast, about 25% commercial.

and @ sts i'm not making that much cause i comped some artist a few hundred units, but i don't have all their contacts so how do you contact em???

Block Report: Thanks for the clarification. I just don't want it to go overlooked that alot of cats have BEEN puttin in work including myself. I feel u on the radio aspect. That's why up here at Hot 98.7 we're tryin to change alot of that by playing alot of Bay Area music. We're independantly owned wich gives us alot more freedom.

As to why you don't see my mixtapes in alot of places, it's because they are just that: Mixtapes lol....Plus I don't get em mass produced which makes it a bit more difficult. So yer shit IS mixed tho? U didn't clear that part up. If so, I'd like to hear one!

Oh and uh STS, hook ya boy up too pimpish =)
