Briefly:

People complain about how bad sports are nowadays, and I tend to agree. However, most people blame this on the advent of free agency, first with baseball and then with the rest.

Bullocks.

Basketball players are doing just fine with their soft cap and free agency system. Players stay attached to the team with the exemptions, and unless they go insane and force a trade, star players stay for the majority of their careers.

You'll see that baseball started turning to shit when the league expanded. There isn't enough talent to go around. Football has been getting progressively worse with more teams - yet the college game is better than ever.

To me, the answer is obviously that expansion is the culprit.

Basketball just sucks cuzz they shot and miss too much, where are the players that can make a shot....ESPN hurt basketball!

Baseball...the strike and exspansion killed baseball!

Football....nothing wrong with it. I would rather watch football the way it is now with most teams in it rather than the same teams over and over again

Hockey...killed itself.

There certainly is something wrong with football. There's no personality to teams anymore. The entire league runs the "west coast offense" with one notable exception being in the superbowl. Children can't became attached to their favorite players because players are cut constantly. Look at Derrick Burgess. The man is a goddamn beast and there's talk of him becoming a salary cap casualty.

What favorites are ever cut????? They only get cut when they are old but still going to cost to much on the books to keep. That's why Rice was cut too much money but not enough talent left.

Burgess isn't going anywhere. They will have him restructure and if he doesn't then they will try to trade him, but that is on the player not the sport itself!!! Now if he does get cut that is just the Raiders being a stupid orginization. Look at a team like the Rams for example. Issac Bruce is going to get cut...because he will cost too much to keep for the price he would make...that's a smart move, especially when you look at how the 3 & 4 wr's stepped up when he was out. So unless he wants to stay a Ram he will need to redo the contract.

Football is a much better sport now then it was even 10 years ago. The parity is alive and that makes a good sport...unless you want to Watch the same 3 or 4 teams EVERYYEAR, like it was in the 80's & 90's, all it was was Denver, Buffalo, giants, cowboys, niners....I am a Bronco fan but seriously that gets old, it's like baseball, you might as well write Yankees and Braves as 2 of the playoff teams right now before spring training....THAT SUCKS!!!!!

So you have a problem with expansion or free agency?

I do agree somewhat...it sucks having a favorite player on your team, and then he's cut...or signs elsewhere...but that's all sports.....

Are you crazy? You want one team buying up all the good players every year?

I don't think there is anything wrong with football.
auctally i do, i like to watch good teams play each others(top 5 teams) not average teams.

I somewhat think FA killed the NFL, teams arent establishing their own talents anymore, i saw a article with % of players becoming good for a team and taking starting roles, i dont remember the exact top 5 but it had something like denver, sf, tb, ten, in the top 5, and the worst were the new expansion teams and raiders were way up there too.

I THINK IT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE PLAYERS. FIRST OF ALL, THERE IS A DECLINE IN TALENTED PLAYERS ENTERING ALL PRO SPORTS. THE LEAGUES ARE EXPANDING AND THE TALENT IS RUNNING THIN. NEXT, PLAYERS AREN'T LOYAL ANYMORE. PEOPLE GET GOOD AND THEN BOUNCE OUT ON THEIR TEAM WHO DRAFTED THEM AND MADE THEM WHO THEY ARE FOR MORE MONEY. ALOT OF PRO STARS TODAY HAVE BAD ATTITUDES AND DON'T CARRY THEMSELVES IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER.

all those points reflect the league, not the players. the league should be blamed for watering down talent. like you said too many teams...who is responsible for that? Ahh loyalty? Are you loyal to your employer? I understand if you're a warm-hearted person but how many people would quit their company to work for another company for more money? especially if millions are involved. happens everday! Yeah you're right some stars do carry negative attitudes but check out those NFL foundations they got going. that might change your opinion.

I think sports are alive and well. You have exceptions for every rule and there is always something good coming out of all major sports.

If you want to look at some negatives, the biggest is pure and simple, greed. Players, owners etc, all greedy. You dont have guys taking a pay cut or restructuring their contracts to win. You dont have players loyal to the team, and you dont have teams loyal to players. My heroes growing up were Walter Payton and Mike Schmidt. Both played for the same teams their entire career. Now kids cant be fans of a team because the revolving door of players. You have guys that win a championship, and instead of trying to win again, they bolt for more money. How much is enough ? I might win a championship again and make 5 million, but I could go to the second to last place team and make 6.5 million.

The one area were i do have a big problem is Boxing. It needs an overhaul from top to bottom.

Jerome Bettis restructured his contract and took a pay cut twice in the last 2 years to play for the Steelers. In about 10 days he'll be playing in the Superbowl and then retiring as a Steeler..

Like I said you have exceptions, and he is one of them. To bad there are not more players like him. The sad thing is, if he would not have restructured his contract, there was a good chance he would have got cut. When you see great players like Marcus Allen,Ronnie Lott,Emmitt Smith, get tossed to the side it shows a tremindous lack of respect to the game and their roles in it. I love how last year everyone was calling for Joe Pa to get out of Penn ST. He is to old, he cant recruit, etc. Look at him now, had a great year and just snagged one of the top High School QB's. For every Bettis, you have 10 that are the opposite. But sports is alive and well. The Rose bowl was one of the best sporting events period that I have ever seen in my 31 years of life.
