You have a good point my friend.

First off, I hope you're well bro. To speak to your question, it's gonna be tough. SO MANY people have certain things going on:

1) There is the social programming that goes along with general labor, in the sense that a regular 9-5 is not "cool", and in the minds of people who haven't been shown different, being "cool" is a survival skill, life is not life without being accepted by your peers. So, because of that, they ( myself at one point in life) only want to work in fields that are 'cool'. Think about ALL of the Latino MD's , Lawyers, and architect firms in the world. They make decent money, but how popular are they among the mainstream as a whole?

2) A PROVEN CONSCIOUS EFFORT by political establishments that , for the sake of big businesses who benefit from it, NEED US TO PERMANENTLY stay rooted in this mindset of 'cool'. In fact, we are so programmed to laugh or dismiss things that are cool, that we will accept the idea of rapping in our 40's and 50's BEFORE we accept a LAWYER and DOCTOR in his 20's as career option.

If this was a lockout of doctors, no one would care. Docs aren't 'cool'. Ballplayers are.

Good random thought bro....

Doctors and Lawyers are much cooler than rappers on average. Shows you really know how to get your head down and get things done (I'm talking about making it through the school).

Good points TKash. We need to educate our young people on what's really impressive.

because most people become doctors and lawyers in their 30s and 40s because of all the school and dedication that it takes to go to medical and law school and achyieve that goal. A kid would have totally had to have their shit in perfect working order from birth to become an MD or JD in their 20s.

Pretty much anyone can become a rapper and are nowadays, how many people can actually say they can make a living off of rapping? Not many. It takes dedication to become a pro ball player but its unrealistic to think that just because you are good that you can cut it in the league. Smart thing to do is take that talent and get that scholarship and go all 4 years. Even if someone gets to a pro ball league doesn't mean they are going to make millions and that money isn't forever. You can break your leg but no one can take your education from you.

I just went to a biomedical conference in stl for under-represented minorities. They had huge recruitment for phd programs at Stanford, Yale, Harvard, UCLA, UCSF ect ect.

Most people don't realize that if you get accepted into one of those programs your tuition is free...

The problem to me is that there is not a viable "industry" set up around rap music in N. California. In every other industry, you shoot for the glamorous position and if you don't make it you can fall back and end up being something else industry. In sports, they have team staff, agents, and all types of careers to built around athletes. In the movie/tv industry its the same thing. In other areas (LA/NY) failed artists can become successful in other positions (LA, Babyface, Andre Harrell, etc) Ba Because of the way rap industry works around here, there haven't been any companies set up well enough to permanently support a workforce. Most of these "companies" that exist have a small staff and what you may do for one company may not even have an equal position at another. A lot of these rappers should have sent their entourage to school so that they have grew people that are qualified to be hired/run/start a company when they are done. Even people that are paid as security, how many learned enough to start their own security firm?

Someone needs to tell these snotty nose rappers the truth, you have a 1:1000000 odds. what you gonna do when the odds eats ur dream up? Get in a program that you can easily make 100k+, plus if ur a minority you get your shit practically paid for - some upper div they pay u even.

We as a area always raised hustlers and the business up here is deeply rooted in how we do business in the streets, which is good and bad. Its good because we will always find a way to make SOME money because we thrive independently. The bad part is that because we can make money on our own we didn't send people out to infiltrate the outside world and learn their game, we don't have any people controlling the game, because they was never our objective.

We have to readjust and support people with bay are morals getting a traditional education. We need to support real collaborations, mergers, and sharing resources in order for this scene to thrive. If we don't, they will continue to let us stay in this small pond while they steal shit from us and push it to the rest of the world.

Here is the latest example
