My alltime favorite 209 cd is from KO Mafia....not to mention that they had hella Bay cats featured like Mac Mall, Cold World Hustlers, 11/5, Guce, Tac and I think thats also where Killa Tay started...but not absolutely sure tho. Only thing bout that cd was that it was mixed hella low. Actually I think they 559 now but whatever...it was 209 back then...LOL

I'm from the 209 and unfortunately I don't have too much to brag about as far as my areas rap scene goes, other than a couple dope CD's. I don't think 209 copies the bay but I think people in the 209 share similar lifestyles wit those in the bay and there is a lot of bay influence out here and people from the bay living out here... but the bay is diverse as hell i don't tie in just one sound to bay music.... but yeah some youngsters out here are on the hyphy shit..... also I know for a fact that there is a lot of dudes wit real mouthpiece and fire lyrics out here... including myself........ 209 needs to step it up and when we have a good artist we need to support them........ im'a always try to support local music but overall i can only support good talanted artists and I haven't bought a 209 cd in a long time.......

2 Da Face Records and Hallway Productions are probably the two Biggest Studios in Stockton and they produce Quality Music. The problem I see in Stockton is no Distribution and no Consistant Promotions. Any artist from anywhere needs to spend on studio time, Promotions and Management that knows how to put the music out there. From my experience, this business is Investment with hopes for Return, not makin a $1.00 out of 15 Cents.

THERE'S A NUMBER OF GOOD RAPPERS IN THE 209. BLACK RHINO WAS SICK BACK IN THE DAY. DON'T KNOW IF THEY'RE RAPPING ANYMORE. PAPER ROUTE WAS A CLASSIC 209 CD TO ME.

Huge scene in the valley man , I've helped do my part as a artist and in media to give it some shine since 1996. I think the key thing will always be creativity and unity. Once the valley finds it's sig'sound , and unites to maintain it outside of the region....ka-boom.

The closet thing to a "valley sound" was the 1990's horror-core production via- T-lo , Ro-d , Young Droop , and Lynch by default . It caught on because it captured the culture of the valley streets at the time: Dark , ruthless , mystic , almost gothic-like because of the huge shadows of the Bay and L.A. it was tucked in. Most people hate on valley cats and think of them as slow , LA/bay wannabees , but in fact , the solitude of the area as a whole forces you to read , and internalize things , so you have alot of bright and concious dudes in the valley.

I'll always root for the valley , and sac as a whole. They showed me more love than the bay when I was first puttin' out records. That will always be "Medina" for me. I really hope they can come up and get it!-lol..let me stop man.

i haven't heard too much from 209 lately. but i use to bump the ol school 209 stuff like the guys from funk mobb, young droop, lowdown, doja clik, some of darkroom and a couple others. i think the biggest song to come outta there was that song off speed kills 209 to 415. a lot of people i know still talk about that song til this day.

I agree... when we used to do it... We did it pretty serious... back from 99 until around 2004. 1999- til like 2002 we got out there and pushed shit all over Northern Cali... We were in the Bay and Sac regularly... We sent a crapload of promo packs out all over too. It definitely was a business to us. Cats need to get back to grassroots campaigning period. From what I hear and see, not a whole lot goin on in the 209 music wise that's doin it on a wider scale and getting any type of regional buzz going.

I have heard some dope shit out in the 209. But that is just that I was in the 209. I have never seen a CD in my hood and knew it was from the 209. I think they need way more hype and promotion about the music scene. I know the people support cuz we sell records and do shows out there a lot.

there is whole lot of original hip hop coming out of the 209 but a lot of these cats are more mob-hop too by (mixing the gangsta/hiphop sound together)

BROKE OF SDU (stockton), COB@LT (modesto), TRONIKFUQ (modesto), KRAZ (modesto)
OKWERDZ (stockton), FIG MUTANT (modesto), JABBERJAWZ (tracy), DA BARBER (modesto) damn near everyone from POLYGRAPH MUSIC & MYM RECORDS (modesto)
BIG CHILL (modesto), PURP REYNOLDS (modesto), GRAINS OF SAND (modesto), THA THURD (merced), DESTRUCTO BUNNY (merced), ADLM (tracy/motown)

those are the people i know of who do it consistantly in the 209 area.. these folks always got flyers/cd's out & about.. 1 of these groups is bound for national attention
