CLEVELAND -- LeBron James' latest Nike commercial is smart and funny and, at the same time, more proof that he still doesn't get it.

Good as they are, the marketing pros at Nike can only do so much. Left to his own devices, James has become a public relations doofus.
The best parts of the Nike commercial: his "role model" dig at Charles Barkley, complete with donut in hand; and the Don Johnson "Miami Vice" cameo.
It's smart and funny in pieces. Taken as a whole, it's LeBron feeling sorry for himself because ... well, I'm not sure why.
Because he took some real criticism for the first time in his life?
The video asks, "Should I be who you want me to be?"
That's the ultimate trick question, of course.
Here's some after-the-fact advice that someone in his camp should've given him before hand:
Be respectful enough of Cleveland not to revel in a one-hour special dedicated to his leaving.
Be the kind of guy who calls and thanks ownership, team officials and fans for seven great years.
That's what people wanted you to be.
It's simple really.
Above all, don't be a jerk and don't play the victim. That pretty much covers it.
Especially don't play the victim in a commercial created to sell more shoes.
