Aint nobody out here selling 100k independent thats 4 damn sure.. downloading is one reason why sales have decreased another one is people have lost trust in the artists due to too much garbage being put out...

You cant really compare the texas independent scene with the bays independent scene texas is alot bigger then the bay and people really buy albums down there

The top independent sellers in the bay are mac dre, nickaktina, yukmouth (rapalot is not a major) and messy marv.. and they only push like 15k-60k (and thats stretchin it) on they official releases (with the exception of yuk his numbers might be a lil higher since he got better distribution and is better known outside of the bay)

Nah not anymore.. they use to have a crazy independent scene tho.. people like flip, slim thug, paull wall, all them suc cats etc. were really movin units before they went major thats how most of em got scooped up.

But as far as i know the independent scene out in texas aint nothing like it used to be either

^^Well Select-O_hits was the big distrubtor, and it was easily accesible to Texas artists, that's how Slm Thug sold all those units, but as far as I know, they crumbled.

True indeed that the indy scene in Texas is non-existent comparded to what it was 5 or even 3 years ago when Koopa & Mike Jones were moving 50-100K of there indy releases.

In Texas they aint down loading like they are in the bay you gotta think how many people in the south that have computers in there homes compared to the people with computers in the bay area its the country they are still slower in terms of all the computer stuff....cats need to support people my last 2 albums I dropped This Iz Richmond sold 2,700 and Kontac and Erase-E sold 2,560 not bad but enough for what we put into it.....me I buy on a average 7 bay cds a month from mix tapes to albums so I really support cause I know how hard it is to.put out a project

People in Houston and Atlanta have computers too. why does downloading hurt bay rappers so much more than anyone else? Thats my question

Its true though Quinn, Messy Marv and Nikatina are probably the biggest bay area selling artists. I mean shit Mac Dre is like a god to people in the bay but his best selling album was the Rompilation and that only sold 60K in the pre downloading days.

The reason why indy artist in TX, and the south sell so much more is because they support each other on the radio, clubs, mom & pops, etc...The WHOLE south supports each other, not just one city. Oh yeah, and the broads buy the CD's as much as the niggas...These niggas also sell a lot because they make music for the broads and clubs and shit...

perfect examle: Young Buck's cd will out sell Loyd Banks, Olivia, and Tony Yayo's..

People dont count yuk as an independent artist ? I know he sells alot more then people like mess, quinn, nickatine etc. but people seem to think Rapalot is a major or something just cuz they have a rep and are known.. they just had major distro.. they aint nothing different from thizz in terms of promoting their artists.

Indy Numbers

Dont believe the hype. Aint no indy artist moving 100,000 in no state alone. If you check the scans you will see that Mike Jones indy album had moved less than 50,000 thats nation wide. Lil Flip moved over 100,000 nation wide in 2000/2001 but that was a double CD. One sale gets counted twice. His biggest indy markets were in the Midwest Cleveland,Mil, Kans, Denver, Indy. He sold more records outside of Texas. If an artist can move 5000-10,000 real units out of retail in their home state, then they can expand the hype to these outlying markets like Denver, KC, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska etc. it will seem way bigger. THe numbers will began to add up.

i think this is one of the dumbest posts ive ever read. i stay silent on this board, but just had to respond to this idiot. please please stay in school.

the population of the bay area is roughly 6.5 million. no rappers in the bay have sold over 20k in the last 2-3 years, except E40. Anyone who tells you different is lying.

Most rappers coming out now sell less than 5000.
