Though the Wayans Brothers development team pulled out of initial negotiations with the city of Oakland, city spokesperson Karen Boyd says the Wayans Brothers- Pacifica Capital Urban Development Partnership are still interested in negotiating their deal and doing development in the city.
The original plan was to develop 70 acres on a former Army base in West Oakland and build a state of the art movie production studio, urban retail village, creative educational fun zone for kids and digital arts center.
Boyd says concerns were raised within the Wayans camp when they learned that a Port of Oakland expansion project would result in stacking shipping containers six to 15 stories high, blocking the film studios and business parks views. They were also worried about diesel fumes and pollution from the ships.
The Oakland City Council will meet in September to further discuss the future of the property.
