Spice-1 is far from a gimmick rapper. Yes the production isn't as tight as it used to be when Ant Banks was doing most of his beats. Ant really knows how to work with artists.

Spice-1/Spice-1, 187 He Wrote & Amerikkkas nightmares were str8 classics so they will be hard for him to compete with his own albums.

Spiceberg Slim,The Ridah & The Truth were good albums POINT ZERO. Dyin 2 Ball had some nice tracks on it but the label that put the album out was str8 garbage from sound quality to the orders of the tracks on the album. I cant belive how my favorite tracks on the album were wrecked "Candy Even Skips" WTF! Does anyone have a version of that track were the song doesnt skip or have hisses and ticks in it?????
Yeah, my copy of DYIN 2 BALL had the same problem, with the hisses and ticks on "Candy." "East Bay G's" also had same ticks here and there.

Re: THE RIDAH...I seem to remember reading and hearing that THE RIDAH was originally recorded w/ different production than what you hear on the released version. Spice talked about this in an interview; he indicated that Buddah, one of the producers listed in the credits (NOT the guy who produces for Ice Cube; that's "Bud'da") remixed most of the original RIDAH tracks against Spice's will, taking out sounds and dubbing in shit that he didn't want. Spice said that all he could do was take what he had left and try to "rescue" said tracks from the butchery performed, but I guess it was basically after the fact. Also, I remember that when THE RIDAH came out, some posters on this board claimed to have heard the OG version (before it was released w/ the changes). They said that the OG version was FAR superior to the version that was actually released (although I thought Spice's spits were cool on that CD).

But yeah, like most have said, Spice is no gimmick; he just needs better production (although THE TRUTH's production was actually pretty good, IMHO). I kind of wish he'd cut back on the songs about picking up girls, too, although I suppose his age probably determines a lot of that (as it does w/ most folks once they go from being in their early '20s', say, to their '30s, or however old Spice is today).

PEACE!
