I'm not sure if this is happening anywhere else in the Bay (although Vacaville isn't the bay) but Vacaville Police recently pulled the plug on my 4th Annual Hip Hop Extravaganza the day before the show citing hella dumb ass reasons such as, my contracts weren't filled out correct, although they been filled out the same way 3 years straight. They were pissed that one of the performers had a recent article written on him where the paper printed some lyrics to one of his songs. The Police Department called me and told me this artist had a bad following and that he had been thrown out of shows in Napa! LIE!! This would've been his first performance ever! They also said that the paper quoted him as to saying, "fuck puercos", LIE!! He actually said that latins are the mufuckas doin' the jobs the gringo won't do!
I may not agree with this cat but it's his freedom of speech right? You think the gringo thing sparked a nerve? He also told me that the Police department had some type of task force that searched our myspace sites and saw that too many people were talking about coming and that they looked like a bad crowd! Did he mean, "BLACKS, LATINS, ASIANS AND NOT JUST WHITE"?
They also said that they were not prepared for a "Hip Hop" type crowd! Again, did he actually mean "BLACKS, LATINS, ASIANS AND NOT JUST WHITE"? The freakin Mayor got involved to shut us down or should I say The Vacaville Community Services Department. They told us the only way to hold the event would be to maybe rent some Officers at 40 bucks an hour but that it would be up to the city people. They said no even when we agreed to do that shit! Vacaville Police Department blamed the city! The city blamed the Police department! Vallejo shut down a show featuring the dance group Triple Threat and myself because of their name! Them mufuckas DANCE!! Even Suisin City shut down a show and they tried to shut down this Saturdays Hip Hop show at the Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre but the promoter agreed to pay 2,500 for some cops!!!!
I have yet to do a show where anything had gotten out of line and we're still having these people shut us down. I've recently been on the phone with several major promoters in the Bay as well as clubs myself and I sware to God that almost everyone of the folks I spoke to said that they are putting a restriction on Rap shows in MANY spots through-out the Bay.
What do we do now? Check the Fairfield New Paper for June 30th., The Vacaville paper this coming Thursday., The Vallejo Times Herald on Friday or Saturday., The San Francisco Paper Sunday., and Oakland's paper next week they said! We even got some News stations interested in the story so SPEAK UP YA!! This shit is our art and what we do and they are trying to take it from us! Not just in my city but the whole Bay man!!
