I can't believe all the misinformation going on in this thread. People talking all this jibberish without knowing the history and the facts.
The Philippines are a group of islands of the eastern coast of Asia (Asia is a big continent, yall acting like everyone in Asia is the same). It is considered a part of Asia, even though it is in the Pacific Ocean just like Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Taiwan. So are people in Hong Kong and Japan Pacific Islanders? No. So X out that logic.
As for the people of the Philippines, 80% of the nation are mestizos (mized with native Maylay, Chinese, and Spanish). The natives of the islands were originally from the Malay penninsula (off the continent of Asia) thousands of years ago. Maylay peoples include Indonesians, Filipinos, Malaysians (the Maylays themselves originated from the Yunnan region of China in the BCs).
The term Pacific Islander in the United States and most of the world refers to Polynesians (Samoans, Tongans, Hawaiians, Maoris, etc).
And if you want to get out of all this historical fact, just look at the basics. Look at Filipino food and tell me that shit aint Asian--white rice, lumpias, pansit, adobo! Stand side by side with a big Tongan dude and some Thai dude and tell me if you look more like the Tongan dude or the Thai dude. The Filipino culture is unique just as most island cultures are. Just like how England developed differently than the rest of Europe...but yall need to look at why and how this shit came up. It's because back in the day in the US, it was very undersirable to be considered Asian. White people called them yellow monkeys (no joke, look at old newspapers). They were either migrant farmers or lived in urban ghettos and were targeted by racist legislation of the government. For obvious reasons, people wanted to avoid being label as Asian then.
What you identify as, hey that's up to you. It's really up to the person to identify themselves. I could really give a fuck. I know white dudes that think they're Mexican and I know plenty of Filipino and Chinese dudes that think they're black. But at least get your historical facts straight.
