and who do you think is causing the confusion? the government! they are the ones trying to divide unity amongst various minority groups, create dissention. shit if you really want to go deeper it starts with colonilism. the european nations colonized damn near every continent, from africa, to the americas, to asia...ran through our homelands and fucked shit up. not only physically, but socially as well. its like the term hispanic. that is a word created by the american government. what are dominicans? some of them fill out black/african, some fill out hispanic (b/c they are from a spanish speaking nation).

LOL! that's REAL talk though. I'm part filipino AND japanese, but i'm fuckin' asian. Flips are DEFINITELY fooling themselves thinking they're not asian. personally. The reason most of them deny they asian in MY point of view is cuz, stereotypically, most people laugh at asians and look down upon asians in america. we jokes to most people. That's why filipinos don't want to be in that circle or be apart of the laughingstock and consider themselves pacific islander. For real though, Japan IS in Pacific Ocean and if anything, Japanese should be Pacific Islanders, but we're not. Don't get it twisted, I got hella filipino friends, and that's why i make my judgments of my point of view of filipinos. it's just an opinion. don't get all but hurt.
damn usually when I see these applications, filipinos have they own box and I just consider myselft filipino, but if someone would ask me I would say im both asian and pac islander...its like saying do people from India consider themselves asian or middle eastern...you rarely hear them say they are asian or middle eastern, they are just Indian
that's the truth. like i said in my post above, this roots back to all of the anti-asian sentiment in california back in the 1800s and 1900s. not only were asians lynched (yup, straight up lynched), they were the target of legislation (laws) that said shit like, you can't own land, can't go to white schools, etc.
and even today, people dont wanna be asian like you said--if you go by stereotypes, it aint cool to be asian. people trying to avoid being labeled as a william hung super nerd. but hey, that's the type of asian the mainstream america loves.

yeah man, i can't stand the stereotypes of asians in america (William Hung). Square ass asian.... That's the thing though. I'm not blind. There are a LOT of square ass asians in the country, BUT at the same time, some down ass asians that DEFINTELY ain't SQUARES. believe that. Shit, I'll say it w/ pride that I'm fuckin' asian. That's what I was born to be and I'ma rep it to the heart. Fuck what other people think. People nowadays are too worried about what other people think and are hella sensitive to their feelings. And fuck the dumb shiet. I'll be the first to say this. The young Japanese generation nowadays are square AND soft as fuck. They forget where they come from and are hella washed up by the western culture. See ME.... I was raised by my Grandma pretty much who is very old school and was raised in Japan through World War 2. So I was taught RESPECT and HONOR and PRIDE for who I am, she pretty much engraved the old school mentality in me. I wanna slap the shit out of a lot of japs nowadays. (I'm half japanese by the way, lol! but was raised japanese). But yeah, I need to calm down for a min...... this whole asian thing is a sensitive subject to me, but not really, if u can hear what i'm saying.
