Why is Oriental considered a slur? Everything from Asia is "Oriental." Oriental cuisense, Oriental rugs, Oriental flavored ramens, etc. Why is it offensive to call a person from the Orient and Oriental person?
orient/oriental is loosely translated to eastern people....not only is it inappropriate to use, it also signifies that europe is the center of the world

I don't know... We refer to people as Frenchman, Englishman, Irishman... Now calling a Filipino dude a Chinaman I see the problem... But... I'm out of loop on this one...
Yeah but if we were to go by Chinaman we would have to refer to Franceman, Englandman, Irelandman. Get it? But yeah I'm done with this topic because it's not a big deal.

did he say it in a condescending way or just as like a description? I mean its a little insensitive but not really that big of a deal IMO
I think it would be about the same as saying Negro. Cuz Chinaman is about equivalent to that, as far as the history behind the word. Some ppl might not be offended by folks saying Negro, but others would. Me personally, I don't get too offended by hearing ppl say Chinaman cuz I know they're just ignorant and not trying to use racial slurs, but I'm just saying.

Same with Oriental. A lot of people are ignorant to the fact that it's an offensive term, so that don't really bother me too much. I know a lot of folks that don't want to be called Oriental tho.

I don't see how it signifies Europe is the center of the world and I still don't understand what is offensive about the word oriental. I know some people are offended by it, but I dont know why.

^^^Because The Orient is what Europeans described that region of the world, thus by using it now makes it outdated. Besides being offensive, its not even correct. Its also, if one is trying to make comparisons, its not even like Negro, is like Watermelonman. Its a word that was used to describe something as from the Orient, as if its exotic or faraway. And since Europeans said that, their use of it implies them being the "center" of the world, thus leading to their ethnocentric thinking. Its really not that difficult; why do we always have to explain what offends us? Sure some people go "overboard", but honestly, who but old as fuck white people say "oriental"? That to me sounds like some "chinese, japanese, dirty knees" bullshit.
