is Chinaman really offensive?

Maybe it is... I didn't know it was though... if he's talking about a man from China... what's the big deal... China... Man... makes sense right?

Chinaman is actually a racial slur. It's just an old school slur like "Oriental".

"AAJA Responds to “Chinaman” Slur

November 9, 2006

Newsday reports that WFAN-AM disc jockey Don Imus used inappropriate terminology during his radio show on Nov. 6. Imus issued an on-air apology the following day, saying he hadn't intended to offend anyone."

I'm chinese myself but I don't give a shit cuz it doesn't offend me.

Why is Oriental considered a slur? Everything from Asia is "Oriental." Oriental cuisense, Oriental rugs, Oriental flavored ramens, etc. Why is it offensive to call a person from the Orient and Oriental person?

^^^

Everything from Asia is Asian. I don't want to be labeled as a rug, lol. Trust me, most Asians do not want to be labled with "Orient."

I don't know... We refer to people as Frenchman, Englishman, Irishman... Now calling a Filipino dude a Chinaman I see the problem... But... I'm out of loop on this one...
