I used to say that there should be a parenting license, but there's no real way to control that. Unless you sterilize people when they're babies and then have them take a test later to pass for their parenting license. But you know that it would all go horribly wrong. There'd be doctors out there reversing the sterilization under the table, and unfair evaluations of what is considered "passing" to be a parent. And also, the fact that it sounds kind of Nazi regime-ish to sterilize folks who you find unfit to breed. However, in an overpopulated world with a lot of horrible parents ( for example, you need only to refer to a thread in our very own Open Forum where a young girl ignores her own infant son so she can get some man sausage ) there should be a sort of regulatory system. We have things set up for kids, but I've seen the Child Services affect more children adversely than positively. Something needs to be set up prior to that stage.
Do you consider it to be a cruel act to sterilize people if they're unfit to be parents?
Do you consider it to be unfair to tell a mentally challenged woman that she cannot have kids?
There was a couple that lived down the block from me in Reading, and they lived with the wife's mother. The couple happened to be retarded, and had a perfectly normal, bright 5 year old daughter. However, the wife's mother did most of the raising of the child since the kid's mom could not handle a lot of it.
