Here is what happened. These guys had so much pressure to come up with a mind blowing, deep, rap everything up, make you say whoa ending that they cracked and came up with jack shit. So then they decided to play it off and said "lets just be real about this and have an ending that you would expect to happen in real life" nothing Scarfacesque.

So what did they do but show the family going out to dinner and try to play it up by emphasizing unimportant people such as the trucker guy in an attempt to blow our minds when in reality they ruined the oppertunity to make something great (ala Junior has been faking the whole mental illness and he forms and alliance with AJ who kills Tony at dinner and takes over the family lol) Sure the ending was realistic, but I don't pay my fucking cable bill to watch realistic.

Why the fuck would you waste the precious last minutes of this series by showing meadow trying to fucking parallel park her car and burn her rims?

I expected more...the way they set it up had me thinking something was gonna go down. It was like gettin head from the finest bitch ever and her stopping right before you were gonna bust a nut...

You guys think a Sopranos movie might happen? Or have they said no to that already..

SO DID THEY OR DID THEY NOT SHOW WHO IT WAS WHO WALKED IN B4 IT WENT BLACK AND ENDED?!...TO ME THIS SHOW ENDED INCOMPLETE..UNLESS THERES A MOVIE,....I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY IT ENDED LIKE THIS AND WHY THEY JUST LEFT CHARACTERS LIKE SYL AND A.J THE WAY THEY DID!....

SO AS OF NOW I THINK IT ENDED AS IF THEY WERE TRYING TO TELL US THAT IT WAS A NEW DAY FOR TONY AND THAT TONY AND HIS FAMILY LIVED ON 4EVER!..LEAVING A.J A DEPRESSED MENTAL CASE FOR LIFE,JUST A SCREW UP IN LIFE,PERIOD!?..MEADOW GOES ON TO BE SUCCESSFUL,..SYL STAYS IN A COMA FOREVER AND EVENTUALLY DIES OR LATER SNAPPS OUT OF IT AND COMES BACK AND HELPS PAULIE CONTINUE TO HELP TONY RUN THANGS...UNCLE JUN IS JUST AN OLD NUTT JOB NOW AND WILL DIE IN A MENTAL INSTITUTE,..AS FAR AS TONYS SISTER GOES ,SHE JUST HAS TO LIVE WIT THE FACT THAT SHES JUST A WIDOW NOW IF THEY SHOWED THE FUNERAL AND NOTHING ELSE,...TONY AND CARMELLA AND HIS KIDS HAVING DINNER ONLY MEANS TO ME THAT THEY RECONCILE AND FEEL RELIEVED AND THINGS ARE SO MUCH BETTER...AND NOW THAT TONY HAS WHACKED PHIL,..HE FEELS SO MUCH RELIEF AND LESS STRESS NOT ONLY WITH THE MOB SITUATIONS,..BUT JUST LIFE IN GENERAL THAT HE REALIZES NOW HE DONT NEED THE SHRINK ANYMORE,CUZ AFTER ALL THATS HAPPENED,THINGS ARE IN HIS FAVOR AND MORE CLEAR AND CALM NOW!!...AND HIS WHACKING PHIL MAKES HIM BOSS OF NEW YORK AS WELL AS JERSEY AND HIM AND HIS FAMILYS(BOTH MOB AND REAL) PREVAIL HAPPILY EVER AFTER!......THE END!....THATS THE WAY I SEE IT ALL!...NO MOVIE I THINK WILL BE MADE!..I DONT SEE WHY THEY WOULD WIT AN ENDING LIKE THAT!...

Chase said he came up with this ending like two years ago in an interview I read with him..

But my take on the end is that the the screen going black symbolizes that the audience has been wacked. The Sopranos will go on, but the audience is no longer a member of the family so to speak.

If you think about what Bobby said earlier in the season, you don't hear anything, it just goes black when you die, and they tried to pull this off. It was just totally unexpected, like what would happen if you got shot in the back of the head, or the temple like Phil did earlier in the episode.

Personally, I like the ending. It's original. Plus, everything was pretty much tied up anyway. AJ is out of his depression (for now at least), Paulie is loyal to Tony, Meadow is going to become a lawyer and probably get with Pat Parisi, Carm is a real estate person now, and is renovating a bech house, Uncle Jun truly is gone, and Tony knows that and now feels sorry for him. Janice is still a bitch, but she has grown and will try to get on with her life, but she's just like Tony's mom and Tony is going to get arrested because Carlo flipped and is testifying against him and there's nothing they can do to stop that.

Everything is pretty much resolved, they just didn't spell it out for people at the end.

Im sitting here reading everybodys responses, and it's pretty obvious alot of you havent watched this show from Season 1. any real fan of the Sopranos knows they dont do crazy shit when u expect them to. never have, never will. All these people that thought Tony was gonna be killed were trippin. bottom line, just cuz the series is over, doesnt mean his life would be over too. they ended it brilliantly. look at all the talk about the last episode, all the specualations people are throwing out there at what happened next. nobody will ever know. they left that up to the viewers imagination. all they did was set up a few possibilites, and ended it without a bang so to speak. they also left it wide open for a movie. so if they decide to do that in the future, there is still alot of shit to handle.

bottom line, watch it from season 1 until last nite....and you'll know why it ended why it did and think it was brilliant. watch it for a few episodes, and you'll be responding on here in a few days about how much you hated the ending.

What exactly would you have wanted to happen? What kind of ending would u have had that stayed true to the Soprano's history?

Good ending, best episode of season 6. Probably the only good way to cap off such a horrible horrible season. A whole season of Meadow crying over Jackie Jr is better than season 6.

Now that I think about it, that ending was absolute trash. I know the show never tied up lose endings, but thats what finales are for. And dont give me that bullshit about how it 'leaves it to your imagination' or 'we'll be talking about this for years' bullshit because that's what it is - bullshit. Basically, they faded to black for the ending...absolutely ridiculous. And forget the ending, what about the first half of the episode? Boring boring boring.

I gotta disagree with coldblooded too, this season has been awesome IMO (except for the last episode). I mean compared to the last 2 seasons this one was great.

this was one of the best seasons, imo.

with that said, the ending made me and my bf jump off the couch and spit out obscene words towards comcast thinking the cable went out. =/
