McClain was facing legal problems in Alabama before his arrest.

A University of Alabama student sued McClain in November 2010 claiming the former Crimson Tide star hit him with a car and assaulted him in 2008. Stanford Matthew Mangham filed suit in circuit court in Morgan County, where Decatur is located.

Mangham claims McClain intentionally hit him twice at an intersection on Nov. 13, 2008 and then slung Mangham to the ground, causing permanent injuries. He is seeking $75,000 plus punitive damages.

circumstances were different. mcclain has never been in trouble since he's been in the nfl. goodell will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. they'll have a talk and mccain will most likely say he didn't do shit. if it turns out he's lying, then his career is over.
i wouldnt be too sure. Big Ben is a big named face in the NFL and he suspended him for 2 allegations not even charges.

This is McClains 2nd assualt arrest in 2.5 years, I wouldnt be too sure he doesnt do anything at all.

you dont think Goodell is gonna take that into account?
take what into account, some dude suing him over something that has no criminal charges to back it up? fact is he was never arrested and never charged with anything before this. your ass was WRONG!!!!

beyond that, he's not even being charged for beating the dude up. it's just for the gun and they didn't find any gun. these charges are going nowhere.

you lied and said he had been arrested before. you were dead wrong. being sued over something that the police say never even happened. isn't the same as having multiple criminal charges brought against you. mcclain will be playing sunday.

There are two-sides to every story so I won't speculate on what occured until the facts come out. A good lawyer will put this off until after the Superbowl as a precaution. Goodell won't make a move until it plays out in court.

It is unfortunate but some people can’t stand another man’s success and Mr. McClain needs to realize this. There is no telling what some of these players were into before becoming proffessional athletes and at the end of the day, good decision making is vital to the longevity of an NFL career, not to mention the blessing it is. Don’t let it become a liability Mr. McClain. Appreciate it, work hard, and Just Win Baby! In Hue I trust!

Sac posted. 65,000 bail on me a few yrs back, this shit won't affect him til next yr but once he posts hell be back on the team, just not this week unless he has a great lawyer. I feel him tho its hard to control emotions and hold back when u way past the point of reasoning. Bitchass muthafuckas will do that to ya....

the only thing i see stopping him from playing is if alabama doesnt let him leave the state cuz of his bail, but seeing that its only 2000, i dont think they'll trip, especially for work

Alleged victim in McClain arrest claims he was ambushed

Details continue to emerge regarding the arrest of Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain. And it’s gradually getting uglier for the team’s first-round pick in 2010.

Via Nate Stuhlberg of CSNBayArea.com, Rishard Papscott claims that McClain and another man set Papscott up for the fight that resulted in McClain allegedly holding a gun to Papscott’s head.

“I went over there, it was basically like an ambush,” Papscott told WAFF in Alabama. Papscott explained that he accepted an invitation to a friend’s house, and that McClain and the other man were there. Eventually, McClain and the other man allegedly assaulted Papscott, after Papscott refused to fight.

“Last night, before all the charges were pressed, I didn’t want [McClain] to get in trouble, because I look at him like a brother, as a friend,” Papscott said. “I never thought it would come to this. What goes around comes around.”

There’s surely more to this one. Papscott claims that he has known McClain and the other man since before middle school, and that they grew up playing football and basketball together. Still, regardless of the background, if McClain did what he allegedly did he deserves to be prosecuted.

Since McClain hasn’t practiced this week due to an ankle injury, the Raiders likely won’t have to deal with the question of whether he should be benched or otherwise disciplined, which becomes much easier when the alleged perpetrator is a backup and more complex when he’s a starter.

McClain is in Miami already. He got there before the team did.
Let's see what happens this Sunday. Maybe he plays better because he knows he better show he is worth keeping around.

Ed Reed: Who are the toughest QBs to read? Brady. Peyton. Brees. Rivers. Palmer.

This article appears in ESPN The Magazine's Dec. 12, 2011 "Interview Issue."

WICKERSHAM: Where do you think you rank all-time among safeties?

REED: Ah, man. I don't know. I guess up there with the greats.

The play that put you on the map came in 2001, your senior year at Miami. Fourth quarter, you're up 12-7 and Boston College has the ball first and goal. Brian St. Pierre throws a slant, which is intercepted by defensive tackle Matt Walters. But as he's tackled, you strip the ball and return it for a TD. So you intercepted an interception? Let's make this right for the record. I didn't take it. Matt looked up, last moment, and gave me the ball. BC robbed us the year before, so we had to cover the spread.

Who are the toughest QBs to read? Brady. Peyton. Brees. Rivers. Palmer.

The easiest? Younger guys -- and most of the QBs in Cleveland.

What are the keys to reading a QB's eyes? You can't. It's a misconception. If he looks a certain way, you might think about going that way, but until he commits, you can't move. My first DB coach with the Ravens, Donnie Henderson, said, "If you break on the ball, you're never wrong." I can't say I always do it perfectly, but it all comes back to being disciplined.

You use the word "disciplined," but on many of your best plays you seem to be freelancing. Are you? I'm never truly freelancing. Most safeties just try to cover ground; I try to make a play and cover ground. To do that, you gotta know where your help is. That comes with practice, games and confidence.

Bill Belichick complimented you in 2009 on an out route that you jumped in a wild-card win over the Dolphins the previous season. You didn't break on the ball; you broke before it was thrown. How was that disciplined? They ran an out route in the first quarter, but the QB [Chad Pennington] didn't throw that route. Everything in football is about running one play to set up another, so in the third quarter, I was in the middle of the field, saw the play and ran to the sideline for the interception. It was a disciplined play within the defense.

What's the biggest difference between playing corner and safety? Corner isn't as mental. We have to get people lined up, make checks and adjustments. Corners are at their best playing brain-dead.

Sluggers often say they can feel a home run as the ball arrives at their bat. Do you feel that way about interceptions? Before the snap, when I'm feeling it and they've thrown a couple of times to a certain receiver, I'll yell, "It's time!"

As you age and your physical gifts decrease, how do you compensate? In the off-season, a few other guys and I work with Dr. Clayton Gibson and his antiaging program in Miami every day for four hours. We do acupuncture, chiropractic work, foot detoxes ...

A foot detox? We put our feet in a bucket of hot water and salt for 30 minutes to nourish our muscles. I was born to do this. This is the talent that the Lord has blessed me with, and I want to take care of myself because football will be only a small part of my life.
