South Africa vs. Mexico was a horrible game. I've never seen a game where on side should have dominated it, but played so bad they didn't deserve any better

re-read this

keeper came forward so the offside states its between the keeper & the last defender infront of the keeper meaning vela was offside because the player on the line became inactive

Fools reading off an unofficial manual are very ignorant and hard headed...my brother was scouted to the Chivas reserves when he was young and he played D1 university soccer for 4 years, and I believe that what he says is more valid than your stupid little book. It was not an offside!

9pm friday night cold as fuck. Gonna stay in with hot chocolate tonight and have a few mates over for the games later. Tomorrow I will be at the pub with lots of mates drinking and watching the other games so I need my rest :p

I think a bet on every game is good.

I am good at making profit from gambling on sports especially on football. My theory is this for the world cup. 3 bets a day = 3 games, 2 good value bets and 1 safe bet that can get you your money back if you don't win on the value bets.

For example, my total goals 4.5+ and Hernandez first scorer are realistic and good value, Uraguay head to head win is safe for me and I can win my money back with a slight profit.

The reason for 4.5 goals total in the first game is because I believe SA can't resist the urge to go forward when they have the home crowd behind them, they will score maybe 2-3 goals but will get exposed at the back by mexico who are more than capable. Mex are a possession based team and SA can hit them fast on the counter,so all this I believe will have a good solid match for the first game.

Hernandez is a little beast and I expect him or Mbela(sp?) for SA to get the first goal as they are favourites.

Uraguay over France as France are in shambles with the team, coach and nation divided. Nation hates coach, players upset that Henry is not starting, causing a divide, players generally upset with coach over choices and they view him as a nazi, all is not well in the France camp. Lack of France team unity will give Uraguay a win here with Forlan in beast form. However Uraguay arriving to SA late and not adjusting might cause them problems, that and France are all class players so I wouldn't be suprised if France win either.
Cool .

Like i said first games are the worst . I hope tomorrow we'll see more goals atleast.

Here's a little secret in the soccer world: No one really understands the offside rule. Not all the time, anyway. That became very clear during the first half of today's World Cup opener, when fans and pundits alike called foul after the assistant referee lifted his flag just before Mexico's Carlos Vela slammed the ball into the net.

When showing replays, commentators pointed out and graphics demonstrated that there was a South Africa defender (it was Steven Pienaar, by the way) positioned on the back post -- whom they claimed kept Vela onside.

It's true that Pienaar was there, and just behind Vela where he stood by the opposite post. But the relevant position was that of South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, not Pienaar. Khune had run off his line to try and intercept the corner kick, leaving Pienaar as the last defender in front of the goal.

The offside rule reads that a player is offside if he is "nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent typically being the goalkeeper)." Usually when an attacking player runs past the "last defender," the goalkeeper remains in the net -- meaning the "last" defender is really the second-to-last defender.

In the case of Friday's game, the goalkeeper was not there behind the defense. The second Vela passed Khune in the middle of the box, he was offside, regardless of Pienaar's position at the post. It was an intelligent call from the referee and his assistant in a complicated demonstration of a complicated rule.

France V Uraguay was a terrible game. Both sides going defensive, France refusing to get forward until late in the game, Uraguay just no control of the ball, lucky to get away with a draw.

France stradegy of taking pot shots wasn't working yet they still kept beating away..

Govou and Anelka were rubbish

PLEASE BAN THE VUVUZELA. I enjoyed Mexico scoring because that was the only time during these first games it went quiet for 30 seconds.
