« Martz Speaks |Gore Responses

Frank Gore planned to spend the offseason in his native Florida, but after today's hiring of new offensive coordinator Mike Martz, Gore is willing to change his address back to Santa Clara. "I've got to be out there," Gore said by phone. "Got a new offense to learn."

An offense where the fourth-year running back will be the "centerpiece" according to Martz. As of last night, Gore hadn't spoken to his new coach, but felt good about the hire after talking to coach Mike Nolan.

>"We just got to buy into it," Gore said of the new offense. "Just listen to everything he says. I think it's going to be fine."
Gore plans to listen to Mike Martz.

Micheal Zagaris

Gore plans to listen to Mike Martz.

Martz said tonight during a conference call with reporters that the offense needs to play up to Gore's level. Martz might envision Gore as his new Marshall Faulk, the running back who amassed Hall of Fame numbers under Martz in St. Louis.

He called Gore a complete back with his unselfish play and his blocking, receiving and running abilities. Martz also said that Gore is a little bigger and more physical than Faulk.

Is Gore ready to be the center piece of a Mad Martz offense that may include more receiving?

"I feel like I can do anything on the field," Gore said.

Although he doesn't know much about Martz, he said he was excited about having him calling the offense.

"I think we're going to be fine," Gore said. "I think we just need to come in and get better as a team. I know we are so much better than what we did last year."

Gore said he talked to Faulk once, after the 49ers comeback win in December of 2006 in Seattle. Gore might have had his best game that night, gaining 144 yards on 28 carries and catching four passes for 34 yards, which included the go-ahead touchdown.

Gore said that all he discussed with Faulk was the Pro Bowl. However, now that the two have Mike Martz in common, they might be talking more with each other.

For more on Martz and to read more his comments go to the previous post.

Oh yeah the Niners will need a new qb. Martz's qb's have to be super accurate so look for the Niners to get a new qb.

Mike Martz said:
"From what I've seen from Alex and Shaun, it's exciting," Martz said. "There's great potential there. They're both accurate, and I think Alex, watching him through the year, is very impressive."

and his QB have to super durable..

Trade Tully Banta Caine and or Derek Smith and our 1st for Roy...then

we need to sign Alan Fanaca from the steelers..and sign Lance Briggs...we should have enough cap space...now that would be some tight shit right there...

Chree what do you think he's supposed to say? Were you impressed with Alex Smith's play this season? Who was? Come on now... I know you got more sense than that. Your squad needs a new qb now.
Personally, I want a new QB this season, but I think Martz might be able to work with Alex. He makes QBs better.. That's just something he does. Alex is more talented (physically, he's also smarter) than Kurt Warner but Martz helped Warner become the league MVP. Maybe he can help Alex become a decent/good QB. We saw him do a lot better in his second year under Norv Turner, who is also known to help QBs progress. If not he will get yanked for Shaun Hill, who I believe is better than Alex and better than he's given credit for. In the 2 games he started it was obvious he knew how to quarterback in the NFL.

But don't let Alex's poor performance last year fool you into thinking he is as inaccurate as he was after his injury. He's much more accurate than that. Hell, every NFL QB is far more accurate than that.

I hear you about how Martz has helped Qb's develop but I don't agree with Alex Smith being more physically and mentally better than Kurt Warner. He maybe athletically better because he can scramble and throw on the run.

That's what I meant.

Also Warner was not known for being SMART, Alex is.

I didn't mean Alex outperforms Kurt Warner.. But maybe with Martz' tutelage he might be able to do some big things since he is physically more capable and has the mental capacity to handle it. We'll see I guess. Personally I want a new QB until Alex proves his worth.

Warner not smart? I think he's a smart qb.... I mean he has appeared in two superbowls, winning one and he was MVP too. At one point he was the highest rated passer in the history of the NFL. And you gotta be smart to be in Martz' complex offensive system.
