Cribbs picks the Raiders | ProFootballTalk

The Raiders made receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs an offer last week at the outset of his post-Cleveland U.S. tour. After visiting three other teams, Cribbs has decided to accept it.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Cribbs has agreed to terms with the Raiders.

Cribbs also visited the Giants, Jets, and Lions. Jets G.M. John Idzik recently said that Cribbs’ injured knee “isn’t quite there yet,” which in all fairness could be a reaction to Cribbs’ belief that the Jets’ offer wasn’t quite there yet.

Cribbs leaves the Browns after eight seasons. His full role in Oakland isn’t yet known; the former Kent State quarterback initially made his mark as a return specialist, but he never fully became the kind of weapon on offense the Browns thought/hoped he’d be.

Former Penn State QB Matt McGloin signs with Oakland Raiders

By Vaughn Johnson
Philly.com Staff

Former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin signed a three-year contract with the Oakland Raiders Wednesday. McGloin’s agent, Mark F. Magazu II, broke the news via Twitter.

According to a report from The Daily Collegian, the Penn State student newspaper, McGloin worked out for the Washington Redskins and the Carolina Panthers before finally landing with the Raiders.

McGloin went undrafted in last month’s NFL Draft and is walking on to an NFL team, much like he did to the Penn State football program.

He went from walk-on to full-time starter at Penn State a couple of seasons after joining the program.

During his senior season, McGloin threw for 3,271 yards, 24 touchdowns and led the Nittany Lions to an 8-4 record in Bill O’Brien’s first season as head coach.

McGloin will enter a Raider quarterback situation that currently involves Matt Flynn, Terrelle Pryor and fellow rookies Tyler Wilson and Kyle Padron.

Here is ex- #Raiders LB Rolando McClain's statement about retiring (and his first admission he needs help):

"Clearly, my decision to retire has raised some questions. Quite simply, I love football, but I have decided at this time it is in my best interest to focus on getting my personal life together. Beyond that, I am not sure what the future holds for me, including football. This was entirely my decision and the Ravens have been very supportive during this process. I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me and wish them the best of luck in the future. God willing, maybe I'll play for them one day."

Keenan Allen catches flak for wearing Raiders hat

Posted by Josh Alper on May 20, 2013, 3:33 PM EDT

When players are drafted by NFL teams, they may have some past allegiances to other clubs to put aside.

Sometimes that doesn’t happen quite quickly enough to please fans of their new team. Such is the case for Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen, who posted a Vine video of himself wearing a Raiders hat while sipping on a drink. The Raiders and Chargers have had a healthy animosity for one another since their days in the AFL and that’s led to some angry reactions from Chargers fans on social media.

Lobshots.com has compiled some of these responses (there’s some not safe for work language in that mix) as well as the offending picture, which has since been deleted. Allen has also tweeted out an apology and promise that he won’t be wearing any more silver and black in the future.

That’s a prudent fashion choice on Allen’s part, although the phrase making mountains out of molehills does come to mind. While the prospect of an NFL rookie coming into the league to make as a secret agent tasked with taking down an organization makes for a corker of a story, there’s not much chance our fictional Manchurian Candidate would spell out his intentions by wearing another team’s hat in public.
