Kevin Broes, 19, who was involved wit two others in a calf-beating spree on a dairy farm near Monroe last year, has been sentenced in Snohomish County Superior Court to nine months in jail and a month of community service. Two younger teenagers, a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, from woodinville also admitted they had a role in the Aug. 29 crimes. All were high on drugs and alcohol the night of the assaults. The girl pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in juvenile court and received three months in jail.
The 14-year-old, after pleading guilty to five counts of first-degree animal cruelty and one count of malicious mischief, was sentenced to 42 weeks in a juvenile facility, an exceptionally long sentence given his history of drug abuse. The boy said he was high on methamphetamines and alcohol the night he and the others invated the Werkhoven dairy farm on Tualco Loop Road. He admitted to killing most of the calves, prosecutors said.
