Its because noone knows what the real population of New Orleans is right now and wont until the next census -- they just have estimates. so if you take their pre-2005 pop. the number would be 57 per 100,000 people a year. But everyone knows the population is a lot lower than that so its more like 64 according to the 'unofficial' official population estimate.

Either way, its still the highest in the nation. Its really like some 3rd World Caribbean style city down there now in most parts of the city -- its not just the lower 9th or whatever. It isn't cool at all. And pisses you off when someone you know gets got in just a random mugging. By some 15 year olds...

5400 block of Seminary Place, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/10
Police responded to a possible burglary and found 79-year-old Olander Cassimere Sr. and his wife, 77-year-old Alphathada, shot inside the location. Each was dead upon the arrival of police.

12200 block of Old Gentilly Road, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/09
New Orleans fire fighters responded to a burning car. They found a man inside burned. An autopsy showed he had been shot to death before being set on fire.

3600 block of Hollygrove Street, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/07
Officers arrived on the scene and found the body of 31-year-old Ellis Brister face up on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He died on the scene.

Amelia Street at South Liberty Street, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/05
During a traffic stop, two men fled from police in a stolen truck. One man, identified as 18-year-old Anthony Williams, allegedly turned and pointed a handgun at an officer as he ran away on foot after the truck crashed. The officer fired back, hitting Williams, who died on the scene.

900 block of North Tonti Street, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/04
Police found a man in his 20s on his side with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.

8000 block of Brevard Avenue, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/04
A 20-year-old man was shot by someone who got inside the house at the location, the man's sister and girlfriend both told police.

S Claiborne Ave. at Cleveland Ave., New Orleans. Homicide on 05/02


800 block of Conti Street, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/02
Veronica Parker, 23, and a friend were shot inside Erin Rose bar. Both were taken to a local hospital in critical condition where Parker died. Police arrested Parker's estranged husband, Roy Parker, in connection with the incident.

1600 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, New Orleans. Homicide on 05/01
Irma Carranza Sanchez, 34, was at barbeque in the area when an unknown person pulled up in a red vehicle starting shooting. Sanchez was hit in the head and died on the scene.
