Ok everyone always talks about people bitin Tech. If it is bitin or just an influence that is for others to decide but here is somethin i found the other day.

These are lyrics from a 1989 song "Its funky Enough" - by the D.O.C.

One, and here comes the two to the three and four
Then I drop the beat I have in store
Lay dynamics on the top like a rug
Make it sound smooth and later make a dub
An MC ate well, so that you can tell
I am not illiterate, no not even a little bit
Nothing like an idiot, get it?
You want the record, cool, I'm with it

These are lyrics from Tech's "It's Alive"

One, and then comes the two to the three and four
Two-thousand Techa N9na is hardcore with a K
See me step up on the track like a thug
Make it pound at West end then make a dub
To the homies in jail
When you making bail
Time to act an idiot
A lot not just a little bit
Watch when Kansas City hit
Tech N9ne's gonna spit it
You want this record cool go get it

The flow and delivery of these are almost identical....

Just somethin i noticed the other day.

i think "biting" is such a stupid fuckin concept anyway...

it's "borrowing" and it happens all the time in music..

Bitin would be something like vanilla ice takin a riff from queen without askin . something where the "musician" show NO sign of creativity themselves or got little to add to the original idea..

other than that i think it's just showin respect or something

you're right i just think a lotta people jump on their toes too soon when they hear something familiar that another artist already did.

taking a flow for a fraction of a verse... i'd still call that borrowing... but it's kinda on the edge.

You just noticed this? It was implied, I thought.

some aren't as knowledgeable about hip hop as others.....this post comes as no surprise to me.

But more about the topic....i think its more of a tribute to The DOC than biting him. When you bite or steal something from someone....you tend to be a bit more discrete about it. This shit is obvious and MOST people picked up on it the first time they heard the song.

right...it's payin' homage to D.O.C....it's not stealing his verses...look in xxl, they do a lot of comparisons with verses from old school and new school when rappers do that, they are just showing that respect...it's love, not bitin'

man some of yall are stupid as fuck and realize that damn near every other rapper does the same thing. theres a difference between ludacris making his intro sound just like tech to me then tech using the DOCs ryhme pattern. why dont u pull up the part where tech used part of a biggie verse or all the other one's he's used. Law and HQ are right though, to true hiphop heads this is one of the first songs you were sprinkled with from the Ruthless Records days. I mean how the fuck you aint heard the doc's funky enuff or the formula or any of that album? when eminem said "i take 7 kids from columbine, stand em all in line." i bet half you nitwits didnt even think about Rakim huh

HAHA thats i was lookin to see.

Yall got me wrong ... i guess the point i was trying to make is for all the people on here talkin about so and so bitin tech here and so and so bitin tech there is that what they consider "biting" happens all the time EVEN with their favorite artist. The tribute shit is kinda understandable but what happens though when another KC artist in the future does the same thing with a tech verse??? Im sure that artist would be slammed.

I had never in fact heard the song and picked up on it immediately when it came on....the formula was the only song i had really heard or paid any attention to from The D.O.C. .....im sure there are plenty of others who havent heard it yet though that did not know thats where it came from.

That's true. For those of you who aren't actually musicians in the sense that you don't play an instrument or have studied music theory, hip hop is deeply rooted in other genres of music but it basically comes down to jazz. In jazz, it's considered a good thing to use another person's ideas and transform then into your own. Listen to any jazz soloist and s/he will use a lick from someone else's solo in his/her own. The idea is to use that phrase of music tastefully enough to where it enhances your style but doesn't take away from the originality of the music

There are phrases we use when we talk that we didn't come up with on our own. We have a whole vocabulary of sentences whether they be from movies, music, speeches, teachers, etc. We learn how to use them and then throw them into conversation when we see fit.

The same goes for hip hop. The D.O.C. is one of the originals. He helped build the hip hop language. It would be irrational to think that someone could write a whole song without repeating something that was said before.

CHUURCH!!!!
