Finally we can see Benson emerge as a star. The man is an every down back work horse just like Alexander, LJ, and Tomlinson. He was a beast at Texas thats for damn sure. He's been waiting for this day. Let just watch and see if the Bear's are really stupid or not.

I'm a Jones fan so i don't like the trade but he had one year left on his contract and they likely weren't going to resign him next year so I guess they were trying to get something for him now rather than nothing.

Heres what John Clayton had to say about the trade:

Bears moving up: If you are trying to figure out the Thomas Jones trade, it's pretty simple. The Bears moved up 26 spots in the second round, getting a Jets pick at No. 37. That's a prime position to get a borderline rookie starter or a quality prospect. Why would the Bears have to give up a second-round pick and Jones to get a second-round pick? The answer is simple. The market for veteran running backs is at best a third-round pick. The Bears wanted to get a second-round pick alone but they couldn't. If you look at the draft value charts, the Bears gave up 280 points. That's the equivalent of one of the final choices of the second round or a top choice in the third round. In other words, they got the best value possible for a 28-year-old running back.

I don't know if this is the best possible value, but according to Clayton it is.

Benson is a really good back, only problem is that he has proven himself to be a reliable back (three injuries in two years).

Benson is garbage... I hope they plan on getting another back. Jones was deep. Benson is the same fool who fumbled when he got blasted by Bob Sanders in the SuperBowl right? Didn't he rush for like 2 carries with -1 yards rushing? What are the Bears thinking.... And Benson wanted to be the number one guy huh...

^^you may be right, we'll have to see who they pick up in the draft and see if the Benson/Adrian Peterson combo works out.

@Tony,

Don't judge the guy on three carries in one game. He can play. He is a power back that usually gets 4-5 yards a carry.

He didn't start last season because frankly, Thomas Jones was playing better earlier in the season. By mid to late season people in Chicago were begging for Benson to start because he was hitting the holes really hard. It was a great 1, 2 combo with Benson bruising the d-line up the gut, and Jones and his quick, cut back style.

I don't like it because I really like Thomas Jones. He plays with a lot of passion and heart, just look what he did in the playoffs. Numbers wise, he was the best back they had since Walter Payton, was the entire offense two seasons ago and probably the most reliable offensive player last season.

From a business point of view, only time will tell. I can see the reasoning behind it since he had 1 year left on his contract and was likely not going to be resigned.

I hear you 20sixx.... but Benson reminds me of Barlow. I don't think he's that good to tell you the truth. I am also judging him off of other games I've seen as well not just the SuperBowl.

the dude runs harder than benson from bears games i've seen
It depends...in the playoffs Jones was hitting the holes hard. In a lot of the regular season games he often got criticized for doing a little hop-step in the backfield before deciding where to go, which sometimes led to a loss of yards or no gain, and on short yardage situations that shit never worked, whereas Benson is a North-South runner and never hesitates. On the other hand, sometimes that little hop-step would give Jones more time for holes to open up, whereas Benson would go straight pretty much every time regardless if a hole is there or not.

Two completely different style backs. They compliment eachothers styles nicely which is why its sad to see Jones go :(

I understand the investment they have in Benson, but wasn't Jones known for being more of a team player and more popular in the locker room? Seems like with his quality numbers and his good chemistry that would be a good reason to keep him. But like I said I understand the investment they have in Benson.

I would just think they would have been able to get more for a back like Jones. Or maybe we're giving him too much credit and should give some to the O-Line and the Bears' game plan and play calling.
