but wasn't Jones known for being more of a team player and more popular in the locker room?
Definitely. Benson wasn't welcomed with open arms in Chicago because he held out his rookie year and missed all of training camp. A lot of players and coaches didn't like that. To Benson's credit he later said he regretted that decision but I think the damage was done and he has yet to be completely forgiven by his teammates. All of that will be erased IF he works his ass off next season.

But as you mentioned, it was all about the investment they put into him.

Thomas Jones was really never supposed to be Chicago's main running back. They picked him up after he played with Arizona (and another team) and didn't put up any numbers with those teams. At the time, Chicago already had Anthony Thomas (A-Train) who was their starter and they thought he would remain their starter but then he got injured and never fully recovered. Thomas Jones stepped in and went way beyond their expectations...

Benson has a lot more years in him but he showed almost nothing since being drafted. Yeah he improved last season but not all that damn much. The bears are going 2 draft another back or get whatever FA they can get 2 challenge Benson cause dude aint did shit since he's been drafted
