Chalk up another major injury to the WWE roster as The Undertaker is now among the walking wounded.
The "Dead Man" was injured last Tuesday against Rey Mysterio which aired on last Friday's edition of Smackdown. According to the Wrestling Observer, he suffered a broken orbital bone, a broken nose and a concussion during the match. It is believed that the injury came after a seated senton by Mysterio that somehow went wrong and he landed on The Undertaker's face.
There is no timetable for him return but he will be taking at least the next few weeks off. He may not be able to return for the Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view on June 20 where he is scheduled to face Jack Swagger, CM Punk and the Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Rey Mysterio would seem to be a likely candidate to replace him in the match. However, he is supposed to have the month off on vacation and to rest his injured knee which he has been working on since late last year. Kane, MVP and Kofi Kingston could also be in line for the spot if needed.
The Undertaker is just the latest injury to a major WWE superstar. Triple H is taking some time off due to a lingering neck injury. Randy Orton is dealing with a separated shoulder although he continues to be on Raw but is not wrestling right now. He may also need to be placed on the Fatal 4-Way show too as he is scheduled to face John Cena, Sheamus and Edge for the WWE Title.
Plus, Batista's recent departure and Shawn Michaels retiring has left the WWE with a void for proven main-event stars. Now, the company has to put guys in those spots and, in some cases, elevate guys before they are ready. But it has to be done which explains why the youth movement is in overdrive right now. Expect to see a lot more of it too as the WWE has to quickly groom its younger stars into the main players.
