your earned my respect cause it takes balls to stand up to the police cause you never know what their gonna do. Its good to see someone standing up for what they believe in and for your kid man, and i think your right about the sticker.

Maybe the cops son put the sticker there for him. U just happened to cross a cop with a big ego and power trip.
nah. he had one on the magazine of his gun in his holster, and also the same character on a sticker on his other magazine that he pulled out of his belt. he also made it clear that his kids don't come within 10 feet of his gun due to his "good parenting"

i honestly think u made a big deal out of nothing. it was just a sticker. Yes guns kill, but so do cars. It would be stupid to tell someone they cant have a child friendly sticker on there volkswagon because your afraid your child is gonna hop behind the wheel or jump infront of it.

teach your children prevention and safety when it comes to things like guns and knives.... thats better then teaching them nothing at all about them. Curiosity will always get the best of them and they may end up doing research for themselves WITHOUT your supervision.

P.S fuck the police!!!!
using a vw as an example is a bad analogy. a kid can easily pull a trigger, but it would be harder for a kid to kill themselves or someone else with a car, but I do see your point. I have told my son about how dangerous guns & knives are, but with the way they are glamorized in the media and cartoons kids become more curious. having something like that makes the gun even more kid friendly, and I know my son's memory, he'll remember things like that. I'm just afraid he might think that all guns have stickers on them and would want to check each one he saw.

You made an excellent point to the cop there. I think if I had a son/daughter and would run into a cop and had this conversation I would write a letter about this to head of police or justice department or something. Let hem explain himself to his superiours about this.
I was about to make a bigger deal about it, unfortunately I didn't get his name or badge number. i thought of snapping some pics with my pda and complaining at the main police station, but knowing how sfpd are that would've probably screwed me in the long run. I just wanted to make a point to him so maybe he'd think about it with a different point of view.

so I'm at Carnaval in SF today and my son points out a sticker on the clip of a cop's gun. it was "Badtz Maru"

(I only know the name cuz some chick gave me a cigarette case with him on the front)

so as I'm leaving I tell my friend to watch my son for a second and I walk up to the cop and say "don't you think its inappropriate to have a kids sticker on your gun like that?" and his response is "don't you think its inappropriate to talk to me like that?" I tell him absolutely not, and I start to say that it desensetizes guns and make them look more child friendly so kids would want to play with them, a child will see that sticker on the gun and start playing with some other gun the kid sees trying to look for the sticker and BANG! so then the cop starts pointing his finger in my face and talking down to me. before I could really get mad my friend walks over with my son and starts speaking his mind agreeing with me since he has a 6 year old. so the cop calms down and stops talking to me like I'm a criminal (because now I'm holding my son in my arms). he says that he shows the sticker on the magazine to kids to build a rapport with children and he pulls out the magazine from his belt to show me. I tell him thats great, but all my son saw was a sticker on a gun, and your gun is sticking out in plain sight showing off the sticker. "no its not" "yes it is" I walk around him to point it out and he covers his gun with his arm. he goes on ranting about its the parents responsibility to make sure kids know not to play with guns because only parents are raising kids. I say it takes a community to raise a child and as much as I tell my son not to do things, sometimes they do it. he says he agrees with the community raising the child, but then immediatly contradicts himself and says its solely up to the parent. he goes on about how he can leave his gun on the kitchen table and his kids won't come near it, they won't come within 10 feet of it because he taught them well or whatever. Im like "guns are used to kill. they are killing machines and you are making it friendly and fun for kids." then he's like "well I'm a cop, and your son should know that cops are here to help people. cops don't kill people" I said thats not true, especially SFPD, and at the same time my friend was like "well thats debatable" anyways, I'm rambling, but I wanted other opinions, do y'all think that's ok?
well those are the cops that are cops just to get the ego-trip which, unfortunately is 99% of them.
well i'm glad you handled the situation as a respectable adult, even though he was treating you with disrespect, that takes a lot out of a person..

i feel you in certain areas regarding how someone may have reservations about their child being intrested in something thats attatched to a pistol. having a readily available gun around an unsupervised child is more of a supervisual issue and vastly outweighs the fear of sparking intrest in the child because sticker or not, it is a weapon... one that has shaped our history and culture as a society. Without a strict emphasis on its destructive capabilities it becomes easier for them to pick one up and wave it around like in the 'movies'..

i hate cops just as much as everyone else but its just a fucking sticker.

cops have double/triple locks on they holsters, aint no kid gonna get that shit out of his side.

when you get your own gun, you are also free to put childrens stickers on it

i say lets be more worried about police harrassment and sthings like that, not a sticker...besides its sf..

as long as theres no rule against having stickers on your gun i dont see whats wrong with it...honestly.
