Two Dead In Standoff, Officer Shot

HENDERSON, Nev. -- A police stand-off ended Wednesday morning after a SWAT team discovered the gunman and his hostage dead inside a Henderson home.

The tragic scene was the culmination of a nearly four-hour standoff that resulted in one officer being shot in the leg and two other people escaping from the home.

The officer's injuries were not life threatening, a police spokesman said. Authorities were summoned to the residence, located at 608 Breezy Way, about 7:15 a.m. after a woman called 911 and reported shots fired during a domestic dispute. It is unclear if police stormed inside of the residence, but one officer was shot and three other officers exchanged gunfire with the gunman, who was holed up in a bedroom inside the house.A woman in her 40s and her 11-year-old managed to get out of the house when police arrived. Police believe the two dead people are the woman's daughter and the victim's estranged boyfriend. Police sent in a robot about 11 a.m. It found the man and the woman, both believed to be in their 20s, dead of apparent gunshot wounds. No one else was in the house.

The wounded officer is a 47-year-old who has been on the police force for 18 years. The incident prompted authorities to cordon off nearby streets Van Wagenen Street and Greenway Road between Boulder Highway and the Black Mountain Country Club.

The investigation into the standoff is ongoing.
