In reference to what you said about a lot of raza wanting to be surenos....
I dont know if they want to be part of the gang as much as they want to rep the lifestyle via the style of dress, music, etc.
In mainstream media, the only type of Mexicans you see are from Southern California. Movies, music, magazines. So Cal is known for that culture, so when people want to reference it, they look to yall as the "standard" I guess you could say. Did that come out right? I'm saying....if all people are exposed to is one portion of how we as a people get down, then that's all they are going to know.
I know a lot of people that have immigrated here, and they all say that they learned about mexican american culture from movies, videos, and magazines like low rider and teen angles. they thought that's how they had to look, dress, and talk in order to fit in.....comedy.
