This job is for a part-time (25 hrs a week!) accounting job at the city hall in my city that pays 35-40K. It's basically governmental accounting. Hell ya the pay is good, but I didn't want the job. I also wasn't prepared for the interview as well as the written test I had to take. I interned with them before and didn't like the environment. While I was working there, I felt like a prisoner and seemed as if I was being watched 24/7.

They did call me up to apply for the opened position and I did. Sent my resume and all, but after I met with the accountant that is already working in the city hall it made sense that I shouldn't go back and should venture out into private companies rather that governmental/non-profit entities. There was a lot of political BS going on as well as some conflict of interest within the department. Plus I wasn't sure if this job will expand my experience more than what I already learned in my internship. I decided last minute not to go and didn't know whether to call them or not and let them know I won't be making it to the interview. Man I should have tho..

What's cool tho, right after I posted this thread I got a phone call from an Executive Recruiter asking me to give him a call for this staff accountant job opportunity they have in Concord.

I guess I decided to rather go for a workplace where I am happy rather than feeling like a prisoner ya feel? Plus this shit is accounting, and I need to test out the water with private companies to see if accounting is really my thing.. Yea I agree its stupid that I bailed out on the interview, but man I wasn't prepared for shit. This isn't like no damn Starbucks, McDonalds, BestBuy, CircuitCity, Verizon, etc. job inteview.. This shit was the real deal!
What school did you go to? My first accounting instructor I had in an intro course told the class if you go into accounting to NEVER go work for the gov't as an accountant. Accounting is probably the easiest job to obtain, venture out, put your resume on monster. Full time should get you 45k easy in entry level.

I went to SFSU and graduated with an Business Accounting degree.. yes, I've heard the same as you and with the work that accountants do within the city they could be making much more if they worked with a private company..

Yes, it was retarded, immature, and foolish for me to flake out like that. I should have at least notified them. I honestly didn't have enough time to prepare for the damn interview & testing. Some of you may think it's an easy interview, but in case you didn't know accounting job interviews are much more cut throat.

Again, I was retarded for flaking. But it's not like I don't have the credentials to get a similar jobs or even better. I have a college degree in Business Accounting and with a decent internship to add to my resume. Accountants are needed everywhere so it's not like this job opportunity I flaked out on was the only one I had available..

Anyway, for you folks saying that I am a loser just remember I am just trying to find a workplace that I can feel comfortable in. I need a new environment rather than going back to a place I've already been in.. I truly wasn't too happy there so after thinking about it thoroughly, I decided last minute that it's not for me..

But all of the negative feedbacks made realize how dumb I was for flaking! LOL! But hey people learn from their mistakes and build on from there.. Thanks for the feedbacks folks!

So you're not into the modified accrual approach? lol...i feel you on that. I audited several bay area cities and i couldn't stand it. you ever thought about sitting for the cpa exam? Get your license and it'll definitely expand your opportunities in the future.
