SO? That was added in later years, obviously. Kinda like BLING BLING!
Here's a little excerpt from the Washington Post...written by a criminal, an ex dope dealer.
"This is the true definition of a snitch: someone who commits a crime but then blames an accomplice so that he can negotiate a lighter sentence or even go free. Often he tells lies and incriminates the innocent. People like that are the real snitches and they are cowardly. Snitching is a way for criminals to game the system.
But not everyone who talks to police is a snitch. If you're a victim of a crime and you or someone you trust cooperates with them, you are not a snitch. If you try to get rid of negativity in your community, you are not "hot" or a snitch.
I blame the hip-hop industry for spreading confusion about the definition of snitching. I also understand that the artists are just trying to sell records by glorifying a criminal and prison culture they often know nothing about."
And I have a good understanding of the English language. Maybe you should study up on your history though so you can understand the roots of some of these words. Snitch used to mean NOSE, or a FILLIP ON THE NOSE.
"By 1700, snitch meant the nose itself. B.E., Gentleman, A New Dictionary of the Terms Ancient and Modern of the Canting Crew: “Snite his Snitch, Wipe his Nose, or give him a good Flap on the Face.”
By 1785, we have arrived at snitch, an informer who turns King’s or Queen’s evidence. It is thus defined in Francis Grose’s A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue."
So we see a straight line of development from a fillip on the nose to an informant. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the word nose itself had a related slang meaning: “a spy or informer, especially for the police”
Bottom line, if you turn on your people to save yourself, you're a snitch. If you're a criminal and you tell on other criminals, you're a snitch. If you're a civilian, and somebody attacks you, that's not really snitching. If a woman is raped, and she points out her attacker, would you call her a snitch? Fuck no, that's a woman that now lives in fear and wants to feel safe. If you'd say that woman is a snitch, that's some cold hearted shit.
