I don't want to do a quote by quote analysis of what you said but, what do you consider high risk situations? Wearing provocative clothing and walking alone? Do these instances really trigger rape? I mean do you have real world statistics to back that up? As I said if you look at the statistics, the majority of sexual assault cases involve someone the victim knows personally. A contributing factor is often alcohol. Is it a high risk behavior to drink with someone you know and trust? I don't buy into that bullshit about not being able to control the reproductive impulse. Most rape cases do not occur in public places amongst a crowd of people? Why? Because rapists are able to control that impulse until they are alone with the victim. It's a hella cop out to say otherwise.
MJ is on point with this post.

Myth: Rape victims provoke the attach by wearing provocative clothing

- A Federal Commission on Crime of Violence Study found that only
4.4% of all reported rapes involved provocative behavior on the part
of the victim
. In murder cases 22% involved such behavior (as simple
as a glance).

- Most convicted rapists do not remember what their victims were wearing.

- Victims range in age from days old to those in their nineties,
hardly provocative dressers.

Ummm what were we even arguing? Your statistics corroborated my point for me.

I think you were saying that girls who dress like sluts should not be surprised when they get raped/it's partially their own fault.

That statistic you have in bold says 4.4% of all rapes involved provocative behaviour, as simple as a glance. 4.4 is minimal and it sounds as though the provocative behaviour used in those statistics are at times negligible.

Either way, I'm done with that. Sluts be damned.

It does? It looks to me like his stat says that off all the things you can get raped for...dressing like a "slut" is pretty far down the totem pole. In fact, it even says that people get murdered more often than people get raped for looking a certain way.

In fact, the very next bullet point kind of takes your point and pees on it:

Most convicted rapists do not remember what their victims were wearing

It categorically does.

My whole argument was that dressing provocatively can increase the likelihood of being sexually assaulted.

The data he posted supports that assertion. No question.

If only 4.4% of victims dressed provocatively then 95.6% did not. If you want to take it literal dressing unprovocatively is a greater risk factor. But really, rapists will strike at the best opportunity, it's not impulsive. Which is what those stats are showing.

That was never the argument, and while taken literally dressing unprovactively may be a bigger risk factor, that doesn't negate the risk factor involved with dressing proactively. They both increase risk factor.

If I get punched in the face 100 times, and I find out that 4 of the times were a result of my wearing a red shirt - I'm going to stop wearing the red shirt, regardless of of why I got punched the other 96 times.

Your original argument was that they are putting themselves in high risk situations by dressing provocatively. If 95.4% were not dressed provocatively does that not imply that dressing unprovocatively is a higher risk activity? Maybe all girls should dress like sluts. But that is only if you take the statistics literally. There is obviously more involved then how a person dresses. Which is what those stats are showing.

Let's say you were punched 4 times while wearing a red shirt, and 96 times for wearing a blue shirt. You only own 2 colors of shirts. Which would be high risk for you to wear? Of course maybe you're getting punched 100 times because your just an asshole and your shirt color doesn't matter.
